Location Map in Colinear Theme

  • The options available in your post settings sidebar when creating a post in Colinear theme includes location map (found in More Options section).

However you can save the location but when viewing the post, that map location is missing.

When researching, some say there is a section in your dashboard to enter a map API key, but my free version does not show where to place or save that.

I already know how to embed a link to a page, but my assumption is that it’s not needed when it’s an option.

Can you please help with how to add map locations to my blog post? Each post will have it’s own location. Thank you for your time!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I’m adding a reply to my post because I seem to be unable to edit/update the original.

While attempting to upload a Google Maps plugin, a message appeared that I would be losing the Geotag feature.

Now that I understand it’s called a Geotag – it still does not save the geotag location.

I’m hoping to have a better understanding of the functionality of wordpress and would appreciate any help/assistance/advice.

  • Hi there, have you seen the guide to geotagging in our Support site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/geotagging/

You can also learn more about geotagging from this earlier Staff reply https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-is-location-in-more-options-used-for?replies=12#post-3040772

Let us know if you have any other question about this.

  • Hi justjennifer – So the answer is:

The geotag info is not visible in your page. It’s machine-readable content only, and the most common use for it is that search engines include that info when they index your site, so your posts would be more likely to come up if someone searches for information on a particular location.

Which is just the opposite of what the actual description says it’s designed to do:

WordPress.com allows you to geotag your posts and pages, which means you can attach a physical location to them. Geotagging comes in handy for posts about a particular location, such as your latest restaurant review, photo gallery from last week’s vacation, or travel essay.

I suspect there is more to this but I wanted to at least update with my findings for others who are equally confused.

  • Hi there, I don’t see a conflict. If you geotag a post about a restaurant you went to, search engines pick up that location information in that geotag and should present the post in search results if someone searches for restaurants in that area.

If you want to display a map for your human visitors, you can add a Google Map to your post following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/google-maps/
