linking twitter to blog – not understanding!

  • Hello – in the instructions below you say to paste the shortode into my post editor – where is the post editor?

I have my twitter handle showing on my blog but when I tweet it does not update to my blog. I don’t know what I am doing wrong.

You say “To insert the widget into your WordPress.com post, paste the following shortcode into your post editor (WHERE IS THIS?)

    [twitter-timeline id=1234 username=yourhandle]

In the shortcode, id is the long number you see in the URL while editing your Twitter widget, and username is your twitter handle, without the @ symbol.”

    I am lost!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there, the post editor is where you compose your post – it’s what you see when you create a new post or page. It’ll look something like this:

    http://cl.ly/image/2k0217090S31

It looks like you already have a Twitter timeline widget in your sidebar here: http://cl.ly/image/2W3L3I2r0A46

Is this widget not displaying your latest tweets? Could you let me know your Twitter username so I can take a look? Thanks!

  • Hello Kathryn

Thank you for your help. My twitter username is @Lisa_LOF. That’s correct my latest tweets are not showing up in my blog.

In my Twitter settings this is the code it tells me to paste into my blog

    Tweets by @Lisa_LOF
    <script>!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=/^http:/.test(d.location)?’http’:’https’;if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+”://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”);</script>

Regarding the post editor – when I previously linked Twitter to my blog I did not have to paste the shortcode into every post. Is that what I need to do now and if I do that won’t it show up as text in the actual blog post?

Thank you for your help in resolving this.

  • Hi there, the last tweet of yours I see that isn’t a reply to someone else is the one from July 22 here:

    https://twitter.com/Lisa_LOF/status/359288484483178497

That’s the same tweet that’s showing up at the top of your Twitter timeline on your site:

    http://cl.ly/image/1C3O343B1d23

All your other tweets since then start with someone’s username, like your latest one:

@Mamamia He has a wife and daughters. Presumably he wouldn’t object to that being said about them? What a disgrace. Shame on him.

That means it won’t display on your timeline, since it was directed to one specific person.

It’s possible to change your Twitter widget settings so that replies to individual people are included in your widget. You can do that by heading to:

    https://twitter.com/settings/widgets

Click Edit next to the widget you created.

Now, uncheck the box next to “Exclude replies” as you can see in this screenshot:

    Click Save Changes.

Your widget should now display your replies.

  • Kathryn – thank you so much – I can’t believe it was something so simple. It worked – all is good.

Thanks again. I LOVE the web 2.0 – everyone is so helpful!

    Kind regards

    Lisa

  • My pleasure! Glad you got this working how you’d like it. :-)

    Happy blogging!
