Jetpack gave a connection error, and now I have lost all my stats history
-
I recently was getting the following error on my wordpress install:
unknown_token: It looks like your Jetpack connection is broken. Try disconnecting from WordPress.com then reconnecting.
I was unable to access my stats. I disconnected and reconnected and it was still broken. Jetpack had an update available so I went ahead and updated the plugin. After upgrading and connecting to wp.com, the problem was fixed, however now all my stat data is gone. Can this be recovered?
I’m using WordPress 3.2.1 on NearlyFreeSpeech.NET with PHP version 5.2.17 running on FreeBSD and Apache 2.2/Mysql 5.2.9.
Thanks!

No I wasn’t. I started with Jetpack on this site a few months ago and had collected stats with it. I didn’t make any changes, besides installing Simple Facebook Connect.

I did a mysql dump from the live site, and loaded it into my dev site so I could test my theme with real data.

Just to confirm, you had your live site connected to your WordPress.com account via Jetpack? Or was your dev site connected instead?
Have you modified your site URL anytime recently?
-
Hi there. I had jetpack connected to my wordpress.com account on my live site.
To do some testing, I dumped my live db into my dev server, searched and replaced for my dev URL and did some development. I didn’t do anything specifically with the jetpack plugin while on the Dev server. Is there any other information I can provide?
Is it bad to use jetpack on a development server? I wanted to test and make sure nothing would conflict with my new theme.

Yes, I definitely would not recommend using Jetpack on your dev server, or at least disable the stats module. If both servers are sharing the same blog URL, the stats are going to get quick confused, and potentially lost.

Ok thanks. Is there a recommended approach to using jetpack for testing purposes, conflicts, etc?
Minus the stats module, obviously I don’t need that on the dev server.
-
I think you’ll be safe as long as you don’t enable the stats module, but I can’t make any promises on that yet.

Unfortunately, not that I can find. In this case, I’d recommend starting over, avoiding the Stats module on the dev install, and let us know if it ever happens again.
