Images resizing

    We have updated the way WordPress.com resizes your images. The update is designed to allow images to resize properly after a theme switch and it will also make it so sizes set in Media > Settings are applied to images using classes such as “size-medium” (common).

    Based on everyone’s feedback, I’m tracking three bugs related to image resizing that I hope we will be able to get reviewed this week. They are:

    1. Resized images look different in the editor compared to the blog front-end

    2. Captions aren’t resized to match images that were resized

    3. Width and height aren’t correct for resized images in portrait mode

    We made an update today to fix how portrait oriented images are being resized.

    1. Resized images look different in the editor compared to the blog front-end

    This will only happen if you have added images with the visual editor and then you update the sizes in Settings > Media *after* the images have been inserted.

    The new image resizing rules adjust images to fit correctly when you switch themes and it also makes images match the Media > Settings sizes. The new update only affects front-end display — it does not change anything you’ve entered into the editor in the past, and that’s why you may see images look a little different in the editor compared to the front-end for past posts in some cases. We plan to leave it like that because we don’t want to make any changes directly to the editor content.
