Image name changing when uploading to wordpress.com
-
Hi – When I upload images I’ve taken on my sony DSLR, which I’ve given a real name (eg. changed from D34673.jpg to mypicture.jpg) WordPress in the upload automatically changed the name from mypicture.jpg to SONY DSC – every time.
I’ve searched for an answer on this on support and forums – no luck!
Any suggestions?

Do you have a specific post/photo on your site that you can point us to or is it all the photos? (I couldn’t find one offhand.)
From my own experience, my old Olympus used to write this kind of information in the description field of the photo so when it was uploaded to WordPress.com, it became the name of the media attachment page. Quite annoying, I agree, but not WordPress.com’s fault.

Hi – thanks for responding – most of my posts this happens with (as opposed to caitlin’s, as she’s using a different camera) – a specific example is this image – but as I alt-text the images it is putting that in the permalink. So it’s not the end of the world, just wanted to check I wasn’t doing something obvious wrong!

I also see that in general you don’t link your images to attachment pages, so I understand that you are seeing this only in your Dashboard>Media Library? If so, could you take a screenshot and post a link to it here? (We volunteers cannot see your Dashboard)
