I purchased a domain through Earthlink web hosting, and want to move it to WP
-
After reading all the support pages I’m still not sure what order to actually do this in; do I have to cancel this from the Earthlink side first? Or just add it on the WordPress side?
I’m not using email or any subdomains, just a top-level .com. I’m sure this is simple but I’d rather do it right the first time.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

See here for mapping from your free hosted WordPress.com blog to a domain you already own > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After you make the domain mapping purchase and do the set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/

You have your own domain – yours.com and you want to turn your blog into yours.com – you want domain mapping – since no email it is simple – takes maybe 5 minutes or so – cost $ 13.– / year – then wait 24 to 72 hours for the changes to migrate to the far corners of the internet – changes will start after a few hours

Yeah, it’s the “do the setup” part that I’m asking about. Specifically, Earthlink is our registrar, and I can’t figure out how to update the domain’s name servers to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM etc.
-
You will need to work with Earthlink on how to change the name servers – that change needs to be done at the Registrar – they should have instructions in the register section, FAQ or help desk

For anyone else who finds this, I had a long chat with Earthlink’s help desk, and it turns out that I was supposed to ask them to release the name so that I could then go to Registrar.com and change the DNS settings there. Hope that helps!
