Homepage Reader not working
-
When I go to my WP home page, my “Reader” tab doesn’t anything–it looks like something might be wrong with coding? It just shows the tabs across the top and then where the blogs would be displayed is just a “0”. All the other tabs (stats, freshly pressed, etc.) are working correctly. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
Will you please try some troubleshooting and provide some answer so Staff have some information to work with? These are the troubleshooting steps we take whenever any issues like this arise:
clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
confirming third party cookies is enabled http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61416
confirming JavaScript is enabled http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
confirming Flash is updated http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and if required installing the latest version of Flash http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
resetting your router and modem and rebooting your computer
then logging in using the secure https:// log-in see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
trying another browserIf those do not work for you then we need to know
(1) how you are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com. The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.(2) exactly which browser and version of it are you using. If you don’t know click here to find out > http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

Are you willing to try the troubleshooting above and provide Staff with the results so they have something to work with? -
Ok, good. A thread on this. I have the exact same problem with the little zero, “0” appearing in the top left corner whenever I click on the reader. The tabs remain a the top of the page (New Post/ Reader/ Notifications/ Stats/ My Blogs/ Freshly Pressed). All of them work except when I click on the Reader Tab, which goes to this url: http://wordpress.com/#!/read/
On that tab, the page below the tabs is empty except for a small zero in the upper left hand corner.
I am doing the trouble shooting you asked for. Here are my results, as I follow your instructions.
I cleared the cache and cookies by google’s instructions, which they call clearing your “browser data.”
I have no addons working on this browser, and it is the latest Google Chrome version: 19.0.1084.52 m
Third party cookies are enabled. “Allow local data to be set” is selected.
Javascript shows enabled. Adobe Flash Player is the latest version.
I tried this reader in Firefox also, and with the same 0 result at the top of the reader page.
I have it selected to always use https.
I will now reboot, reset the modem and come back. My guess is that none of this will work and that someone at WP will have to admit it is a design flaw. I hope you prove me wrong though, because I just want it to work.

@sonofwalt
It’s good that you are solution focused. Please do report back to this thread as I have flagged it for Staff attention. -
Thank you, timethief. I have come back after the reboot, went to the reader tab, and it still has the zero, and nothing else under it, exactly as before.
Currently I do not have cable modem or dsl so I am connecting to the internet using my Android HTC phone as the modem. I had no problems with the reader (even though I dislike the long scroll as apposed to the magazine style of the old Topics page) until two or three nights ago when it stopped working altogether and gave me the zero.
-
Ok, one more thing. I took this a step further, and had a friend in another town who uses firefox on his system log in as me. While it did not work with me on firefox, it did work with him. He got the scroll down of the latest blogs when he clicked on my reader, whereas I only got the zero.
Now he has a different ISP, cable connection and ethernet. I hope that my connecting via my phone as a modem is not the problem, because it will be a while before I can change that.
-
I also have this problem, but not when I access via Firefox…I have done the troubleshooting, but it does not fix the issue.

@timethief – thanks for pointing me to this thread. I cleared my cache, disabled add-ons, updated my Firefox browser from 12.0 to 13.0, and then restarted my computer – and I can now see the list of blogs I follow in the Reader (instead of just a 0). I appreciate your prompt response.
-
@timethief, I have no idea why, but this afternoon, the reader is working for me, for the first time in days. Odd that it did not after the cache clearing and rebooting yesterday, but it did today. If anything was changed on the WP homefront, please pass on my thanks.
Shrug.

Hooray! I’m guessing that the techies in the backend sprinkled some magic dust on the Reader for you two. ;) Happy Blogging! -

UGH! The zero “0” is back at the top of my reader page.
I honestly give up. What’s the point of trying? WordPress isn’t interested, and sadly will lose people over this. They already have. If my son hadn’t just started a new blog, I’d be considering it myself. As it is I will give it some time and hope that WordPress doesn’t go the way of Myspace. It’s been the best boat afloat for blogging. But it’s on shaky ground lately.

Is there any solution for this on the iPad? I had no problem until a couple of days ago and now it just doesn’t ever load any posts and the screen is blank. So sad! :(

I have the IPad3 with wordpress app and it wont show anything under pages (which is I presume where I read the blogs I follow). It hasnt worked since I got it 2 weeks ago. I have cleared history and cookies and enbabled the debug specific to the wordpress app. restarted the IPad and no joy. When I go onto my laptop and firefox it works fine but not on the IPad which makes me think it is system specific. the IPad is totally up to date also.
