Free Plan Storage Limit
-
Hi. If I consume all the 3gb storage limit to the free plan within a month, does it roll back to 3gb again for the next month or does it mean I have to upgrade to a paid plan to upload more?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

- All WordPress.com blogs come with 3 GB of space for uploaded files and images.
- WordPress.com Personal includes another 3 GB of extra storage, for a total of 6 GB.
- WordPress.com Premium includes another 10 GB of extra storage, for a total of 13 GB.
- WordPress.com Business includes unlimited storage space.

Hi there,
As you cannot upload audio or video on the free plan, I would really like to know how you intend on using up 3GB of space within a month. You would need to upload hundreds of images at incredibly high resolution to use up that much space.
Most computer screens can’t display images at full size if the image is bigger than 1600 pixels wide. Most of our themes don’t show images at bigger than about 1200 pixels.
Let’s say you resize images on your computer to about 1500 pixels wide before you upload them to your site, you’ll have a decent image resolution and be able to upload tens of thousands of image before you reach 3GB worth of uploads.
So, if you just follow some image optimization best practices when adding image files to your site, you can run a photography site here for years without ever exhausting the free storage included on your site.

Just to add, I’ve been here close to 11 years and have barely scratched 5% of my 3GB limit on any of my free sites and that’s because I resize and optimize, as @kokkieh mentioned. There might be a few themes that require a wider image as a featured image, but overall 1600 pixels wide is sufficient for images you insert in a post or page.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/In addition to the software programs mentioned on that support guide, there are other free, online image editing apps that you can use a well:

https://pixlr.com/

https://aviary.com/Another option is to upload to an external service like Cloudup.com and then embed the images. This works for everything but Featured Images and images you post to the Gallery feature:

Hope that helps too.

@kokkieh – just noticed that the Cloudup support guide is not linked in the Embedding Content index https://en.support.wordpress.com/category/embedding-content/

Thanks for spotting that, @justjennifer. (And for reminding me about my to-do list item of updating that image optimization doc…)
