Free Plan and blog posts

  • I want the My Hair Goal–with Monat to be the post at the top…oldest on top, newest on the bottom
( I have to go to a meeting for about an hour and a half. Be back after that).
    Thanks for your help JustJennifer

  • Oh dear, that isn’t the correct order! Sorry!

In the Customizer>Home Page, did you set a page as the blog posts page? If you did, remove it so that the Posts page area is blank.

I’ll have to continue tomorrow, in my part of the world it’s quite late now. (Obviously!)

  • Ok. To answer your question, I did exactly what your steps above said.
I like that my blogs are on the Blog page, I would just like oldest at the top and newest to the bottom.

  • Ok. I’ll try to replace that link

  • When I replace the link now with the one you said it should be, in that ‘custom link’ area (per step by step instructions above) it says ‘invalid link’ in red.

  • I have 2 other things to do now.
Now, that they are in the order I wanted (oldest post at the top, newest post at the bottom), they are on the Home Page and on the Blog page. Is there a way to take them off the home page and just leave them on the Blog page?

  • Oh NO!! I added a ‘contact me’ page and it threw the order of the blogs off again, and now they are only showing on the right hand side of the ‘blog post’ page under the small link (on the right).
All I did was add a contact me page!

  • So now, the blog posts are correct on the home page, but not showing on the blog posts page.
I would prefer them to be on the blog posts page and not on the home page. So, how can I move them (in the order they are in now) to the blog posts page and keep the home page clear. (So I can add other text on the home page).

  • Maybe I can change the menu link name from Home to Blog Posts, and delete the empty blog post page. But I don’t want to do anything until i get help in case something goes wrong.

  • Hello again I’m away from my computer this morning but I’ve tagged this thread for staff assistance. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

  • Hello, unlike Staff I cannot see the back end of your site to see the Customizer settings. I can only see the result at the front end, but it looks like we’re almost there.

I currently see the HOME link in your custom menu is https://myhairtherapy.wordpress.com/?order=asc and that your posts are appearing there in the order you want, from oldest to newest.

However, you have also set up a static front page at https://myhairtherapy.wordpress.com/ which anyone arriving by search engines or clicking on your site header or site title will land on.

So let’s back up for a moment.

If you want to have a static front page, in the Customizer under Homepage settings it should show: Your Homepage displays – A static page (temp screenshot) Select the page you created as your static front page. Leave the Posts page empty.

If you want to use the special link for your blog posts so your posts appear with the oldest on top, first please remove the static page called blog-posts from your Custom menu under Menus in the Customizer. This does not delete the page itself but only keeps it out of the Custom Menu.

In the Customizer under Menu, change the HOME link URL to https://myhairtherapy.wordpress.com/

To that same Custom Menu, add a new custom link called Blog Posts and in the URL line add the special link https://myhairtherapy.wordpress.com/?order=asc

After you’ve done all the above and published your changes by clicking on the Publish link, you should have two custom links in your Custom Menu:
    Home – https://myhairtherapy.wordpress.com/
    Blog – https://myhairtherapy.wordpress.com/?order=asc

Do please also consult the support guide I linked to earlier about creating a Custom Menu for more information about adding new links to your Custom Menu.

Let me know how that goes. I am leaving for a few hours but will check back again later.

  • Yes, ok i see, but my home page that says ‘Welcome’ doesn’t have a menu link. I don’t know how to put it in a ‘Home’ menu link.
Getting there slowly…appreciate your help, but believe me, I’m this slow and challenged with this. Finding it incredibly complex and your help is the only thing that is moving this along to finish line.

  • Go to the Customizer>Menu and add a 2nd Custom Link to HOME or WELCOME in the Custom Menu with the URL of your site’s front page.

Usually this link is already preconfigured for you, (temp screenshot) you just need to click the plus sign to add it to your existing Custom Menu.

If that preconfigured HOME link is missing, you can create a new custom link to HOME from the “Custom Links” module just at the top of that panel by adding the URL https://myhairtherapy.wordpress.com/ and Link Text HOME

    Remember to publish your changes.

  • Thanks for sticking with this one :)

I’ve read the backlog of postings and it sounds like justjennifer has handled all the questions. If that’s not the case let me know.

  • Justjennifer….sorry, I don’t understand.

liz……yes, she is handling the issues I’m having, but it’s not over yet. So many issues and SO COMPLICATED.

  • @myhairtherapy I’m sorry but at this point I am unable to explain the process of adding your HOME link in any other way that is different than my above reply

    But-
You’ve succeeded in adding the link to your blog posts in a Custom Menu so that the posts appear in the order you want (oldest first),

You’ve succeeded in removing the static blog posts page.

All that is left for you to do is to add the link to the HOME page and the only way I know to do that is as I explained in my above reply https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/free-plan-and-blog-posts/page/2?replies=37#post-3078823

@lizkarkoski-would it be possible for you or one of our other HE’s to take a look at myhairtherapy’s Custom Menu to ensure that it is set up correctly?

    We’re looking at two links:
    One for the static HOME page (still missing);
One for the Posts page, added already by myhairtherapy.

    TIA.

  • Well, it will have to stay the way it is then, because I don’t understand the instructions. I’ll have to hire a web developer to fix this.

The other thing I want to do is, on the ‘welcome’ page, to the right hand side, there is a link that says ‘posts’. I want to remove that link and the posts are in the wrong order on that anyway.
Can you tell me how to remove this “posts” link?

  • While hiring a web designer is certainly an option, I believe you’ll figure it out given you’ve succeeded with the other items so far.

The Archives widget can be removed in the Customizer>Widgets>Sidebar.
