Footer bar

  • Hi, how do I edit the footer bar and customize it?

I would like to copy how the footer bar is currently on our website.

The site I need help with is theleatherheadtheatre.wordpress.com.

  • Hi! Are you able to add some widgets via the Customizer? Also, are you looking to get the same functionality, or the same look as well?

If you want to bring over the color scheme, can I recommend a theme like Stratford? That has more palette options, including one that controls the color of the footer:

Also, if you’ll be upgrading the site later, the CSS option that comes with Premium can give you some finer control, too.

  • Oh, I was going to say though, to add widgets (regardless of the style/colors), go to go to My Site > Customize, and click on Widgets. You can add items or text to your footer area as you like. Let us know if you need help.

  • not worried about the footer colour scheme as we are rebuilding the whole site and scheme.

i just want to be able to get the same layout ive been able to add widgets but not resize them or rearrange how they look

  • It’s not possible to customize your theme to that degree without first upgrading to our WordPress.com Premium Plan, which includes the ability to add custom CSS to override the default theme styles (controlling widget placement and appearance for example) and replacing them with your own.

To clarify, the site you are trying to copy is also a WordPress site? Or is it built using a different platform. It may be possible to have the same information in your footer, but I’m not sure it would be easy to create the exact same look. Instead you may want to consider using our block editor to create a “footer” for your homepage, and then copy that to all your other pages.

You would have more latitude in how to create the layout using blocks, and could do so without an upgrade. The “widget area” that the theme provides is limited in what it offers for customization so I am not sure I would go that route.

You could for example create a footer as a “reusable block” which would allow you to quickly and easily add it to all pages on your site. They would all stay in sync as well, so if you make an edit to the resuable footer you create, that change would be reflected on all pages that use that block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/reusable-block/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
