Font Size Changed in Classic Editor Visual View
-
Thanks so much for digging deeper, too, Shawna.
Had a strong feeling “something” happened technically behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, the temporary fix does help. I couldn’t continue the editing I need to do without it.
Could you let us know when it’s fixed?
-
@dandelion,
Correct me if I’m wrong, because I haven’t read the whole thread. Your “fix” was to modify the Firefox text/font size? You said, above:I found zooming to view the side modules made the text so large in the visual editor of the classic editor that it was unusable. So that is why I changed the default text/font size in Firefox. Unfortunately, that changes all websites’ text/font size, so it’s only a temporary “fix”.
-
Yes.
I changed the default text size to a smaller number and that helped a lot with the text size shown on the visual part of the classic editor. So, I then rechanged the text size for the minimum size to a smaller number in the “advanced” settings and that also helped.
It depends on your default text/font size and also on the “advanced” text/font page.
I used 14 on the default size and on the advanced in the “minimum” text/font size I used 10.
It may depend on what size your monitor is. But those numbers brought the visual mode of the classic editor looking close to what it used to look like. It is useable now.
Of course, it will change all websites text/font size. Haven’t had too many problems with the new settings.
Try it out and let me know how it works for you. You may have to adjust the numbers.

Thanks. But…well, it’s not worth it for me, because I visit lots of other sites. I’m gonna wait it out. I’ll bet poor-sighted readers are loving this change though.
While experimenting I’ve noticed that one zoom out click brings the text back to a nice, comfortable size. I’ve used that a couple of times, but it’s not something I want to get used to. -
Who knows when WP will fix this? I do suggest making the changes in your browser as I haven’t noticed any changes with other websites.
No, I don’t think this is good for those with poor eyesight as the side modules as so much smaller in comparison with the visual mode. It’s not useable at all in my opinion. Hence, why I changed the font size in the browser temporarily.
Go to Menu, Options, Content-change the default size, then to Advanced to change the minimum text size. It’s very easy to do. You can always play with the numbers to see what works and change it back if necessary. It depends on how long you spend on WP versus other websites.
We do need to know when WP fixes this. Shawna did say that she would keep us informed.

@dandelionsalad,
Thanks again, pal. Appreciate your help very much, but I’m kind of in this quest more for others than for myself. I recognize that the change has been a troublesome issue for you and for some others, so I’m standing with you, on principle. “And yet it moves!,” said Galileo.You change the Firefox text font minimum in two places and it doesn’t affect how text appears on other sites, only WordPress? That doesn’t seem to make any sense.
-
Thanks, musicdoc, I agree with you.
Any changes to the Firefox text/font size will be on other sites, too. I just haven’t noticed it to be a problem.
When I first made the changes, it did mess up other sites, especially typing in a form box (the text size was too large to read the forms properly but by changing the minimum size it fixed that problem. You can read about that at the beginning of this thread.

I can’t remember and I’ve changed the overall font size in Firefox so don’t know if it has changed here, too.

Hey everyone,
The devs actually reverted this change shortly after my post last night. They’re working on deploying a less drastic change to the editor font size.
If your font is still large, try clearing your cache and cookies:

The 23rd, really? Well, I didn’t notice the reversion to the extra-large text in the editors until 25 November, when it suddenly became very noticeable. Had been normal for several days, since the 20th I think.
As was the case during the recent Big Text week, 12-19 November, I would estimate a 15+% increase in size.

Guess they are still working on fixing it. My text is still too large in the visual mode of the classic editor when using Firefox. I haven’t tried Chrome since Nov. 23 when I took the screenshot.

Staff responded on the other similar thread about font/text size being too large. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/my-edit-post-page-looks-different-text-too-large/page/2?replies=48#post-2150022
Well, this does not work well for those of us bloggers who use a PC. I’ve very unhappy with this “change”. It is not for the better.
Back to changing the font/text size in Firefox.
