False follower notifications
-
For the last few months I’ve been receiving 3-4 new email follower notifications from WordPress each week. All are ‘outlook.com’ addresses, and all are gibberish ‘names@’.
So many new followers is extremely unusual, especially since I haven’t been posting new content lately.
What’s more, when I go to ‘Insights’ in My Stats, none of these addresses are listed in my email followers. So my questions:
1) Is there any way to stop whatever bot or other method is triggering the false follower notifications?
2) If not, is there any way to stop receiving the notifications for false addresses that aren’t being added to my insights?
3) If not, is there any harm in allowing whatever is causing this phenomenon to continue to do so? That is, is there a security issue or other angle that I am not aware of?I’d appreciate any isight or guidance into this strangeness.
Thanks.
