Embedding reddit posts – links leads to URL shortener

  • Hello!

I’m having an issue with embedded Reddit posts in my blog post (still in draft) where links to the Reddit post leads to an URL shortener website instead (“href.li: hide your referrer”) when I preview it.
It used to work fine though, but now for some reason it doesn’t.

    Any news on this?

    Thanks! :)

  • Hi there,

Can you please let me know your site’s address so I can point you in the right direction of getting support?

Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software you need to seek help at these forums:

  • Yeah, my blog is hosted here on WordPress.com, it’s not a self-hosted one. It’s not published yet as I’m working on getting content on it before that.

  • I make a post, pick the Reddit embed block and put the share link I got from the Reddit post I’m trying to embed. The share link I get is an ordinary, non-shortened link to the post. It visually shows up as I’d expect in my blog post, as an embedded Reddit post, but most links in it like the one for the photo, title and username lead to the URL shortener website instead of the actual Reddit post.

  • I’ll add quickly too that when I hover over one of the links, they show up with this structure: https://href.li/?https://reddit.com/r/

  • Ok, so I found the issue after searching the forums. I did search previously but didn’t find anything, must have used different search terms.

For anyone else wondering, you have to choose the option “I would like my links to be public, without being passed through a referrer hider.” in the “Reading” settings of the blog. Otherwise some links will end up on that other site.
