Domain ownership/release

  • Hello,

We are trying to migrate our e-mail service on GoDaddy to a new system but the fact we were hosting our website on wordpress.com is preventing us from proceeding with the migration as the domain emdfinancial.ca appears to still be tied to wordpress.com.
Once logged into our wordpress account we have no option to edit or release the domain since our lease has expired.
Is there any way we can gain back access to the dns records or request you to release the domain so that we can proceed with our e-mail service migration?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi! I took a look, and your domain does not seem to be expired, so that’s good news! They go through quite a process if you do let them expire, so you’ll want to avoid that no matter who it’s registered with.

But on that point, the domain isn’t registered here. It was just connected to our service. That connection (mapping) expired.

If you’re not using the site here, all you need to do is log into your registrar (GoDaddy) and update the DNS settings there. They will probably need to give you a specific set of their name servers to use with your hosting account, so I’d recommend reaching out to their support if you need more help.

Since the custom domain connection is gone, your site with us exists as https://emdfinancial.wordpress.com/ . Here’s the migration process:
    https://move.wordpress.com

After you’re finished migrating, I’d recommend making that site private for a while rather than deleting it right away, so that you can access it again if needed:

Also, just as an FYI. If you’re moving the site because you want a particular theme or plugin on it, note:
    – you can add plugins and themes to some plans now
    – We have built in the functionality of many plugins, so you might not even need one. Let us know if you have questions. You’ll want to be sure you understand the difference between our service and the free software, too:

    Hoping all of this helps!

  • Thank you supernovia.
After reading your response and once again reaching out to our email provider they were actually able to locate the issue that prevented the migration and have it sorted out on their website.

Thank you for the valuable information included, we will proceed accordingly and in the meantime mark this thread as resolved.

    With regards,
