Dailymotion embeds are no longer displaying
-
Hey all, I just wanted to let you know that DailyMotion embeds have been fixed. There’s a bit of cache clearing that needs to happen before you’ll see all of the embeds fixed. The cache clearing should be completed by the end of the day on Thursday.
Please let me know if you’re still seeing issues with your DailyMotion embeds on Friday!

I am very impressed ! :-)
English is not my native language :-( but …
Thank to the WordPress team and especially to you, Shawna !
I would like an explanation of the problem if possible …
Why Dailymotion videos were blocked by browsers for security reasons? Their videos embeds did not support https ?
I’ll let you know if the video reappears on my blog … -
-
I can give a basic explanation. We’re moving everyone’s WordPress.com sites to using secure HTTP. You can tell that your site has been moved by checking the URL in your address bar. If your URL starts with ‘https’ (as opposed to ‘http’) then your site is using secure HTTP now!
The issue here came in because we hadn’t fully coded support of secure HTTP embeds for DailyMotion videos. We were sending all of the embed requests over standard HTTP. Once your site is using secure HTTP, browsers don’t like it when you make unsecure (http) requests from a secure (https) site, so they were blocking the embeds as “mixed content”.
We had to find a solution that would work for embed URLs using ‘http’ or ‘https’ but send the request over the correct HTTP version to match your site.
I hope that helps explain a bit why this error happened. :)

you must replace the embed code copied from Dailymotion in the WordPress articles…
Thanks Shawna ! -

Do we need to change how we put the coding into our blog posts? I used the [dailymotion id=k6gZuMnubft2ZDP2bC], for example, and nothing shows up. I also checked several other posts.

i use this syntax https://dailymotion.com/video/x288e2h and it works. The adress of this video is http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x288e2h_python-tutoriel-fr-2-premiere-utilisation-d-idle-et-premier-script-ou-programme-en-python_tech

Thanks for letting me know how you did it, lecoinduprogrammeur.
Of course, I’d prefer not to have to edit all the posts, which I had previously done to put an active link to the videos while they were not working on WP.

You shouldn’t need to, can you give me a link to the video you’re trying to embed here so I can take a look and figure out where our code is borking?
Also, are BlipTV videos ever going to work on WP again?
This is really up to BlipTV. Once they start supporting secure embeds, then yes they will work on WordPress.com again. I’m sure they will eventually support this as most of the web is moving to secure HTTP.

Thanks, Shawna for such a quick response, especially on a Friday evening.
The first video on this post is from Daily Motion and the video link goes to the correct video but doesn’t show up on the blog post with the short code typed one line above the hyperlink.
-
It looks like you’ve got the editor for that post open. Do mind if I take it over to take a looksee?
-
-
Hmm. It looks like this shortcode style is not using secure HTTP correctly. Let me ping the developer who worked on this. I’ll let you know when I hear back.
-
Thanks, Shawna. I’ll wait to hear back from you before I edit all the posts, hopefully I will not have to do that editing.
-
-
lecoinduprogrammeur, are you asking me that question or is it directed to Shawna?
I can edit all the posts so the videos appear, however, I prefer not to have to do that. I used the shortcode and apparently that doesn’t work right now.
