Changing links in “Garland” template “Misc” section

What is the best way to
strip out the links to
wordpress.com
wordpress.org
in the “Garland” template “Misc” sidebar section
on the new blog I just set up at
http://awaywithallgodstour.wordpress.com/I don’t know if this is something coded into the template or if I am missing something in the dashboard.
Thanks!

I am not sure how widgets work. I just set up this blog today and have not turned on any widgets. This is meta info.
Can a widget be turned on in a theme and not show up as “used” in thee dashboard widgets section.

You might want to take a look at this http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/12/24/what-is-a-widget/
There is a sample set of widgets in your sidebar when you first choose a theme. Once you add widgets, the sample set disappears.

If you have not yet added any widgets, what you are seeing is the sample set. Once you add widgets, the sample set will disappear.
The wordpress links are hard coded into the widget and cannot be removed. What you can do is create a meta widget of your own with a link to the admin area using a text widget.

Thanks Guys,
Okay. I can turn widgets on and off. That first time widgets thing is too mysterious. Now, can I customize the meta widget to get rid of
WordPress.org

Thanks again Sacred!!!
That is what I need to know.
Can you recommend a good tutorial for creating widgets for wordpress.com. I don’t see anything in the FAQ. I have some experience with wordpress.org, a good understanding of html and how other language code and applications work with html.
THANKS!!!

“In a world marked by profound class divisions and social inequality, to talk about “democracy”— without talking about the class nature of that democracy and which class it serves—is meaningless, and worse. So long as society is divided into classes, there can be no “democracy for all”: one class or another will rule, and it will uphold and promote that kind of democracy which serves its interests and goals. The question is: which class will rule and whether its rule, and its system of democracy, will serve the continuation, or the eventual abolition, of class divisions and the corresponding relations of exploitation, oppression and inequality.” -Bob Avakian -
Um, away – signatures are not allowed in the forums. As for the widgets – you really don’t “create” them. The ones you can use are in you side bar. The only one that you can use to create something unique is the text widget. Take a look at the widget info in the FAQ http://faq.wordpress.com/?s=widgets

Thanks Vivian,
I’m clear on using the “text” widget for this.
There is a tiny smiley in the right hand column. I don’t want to be a spoiled sport. But, why is that there? And, can I get rid of it?
Sorry about the sig. Updated my profile.

This will explain it: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/12/19/why-is-there-a-smiley-on-my-blog/
