changing back to old theme
-
How do I change back to my old theme (Contempt) as I don’t really like the new one (Minimal) and just realized I’d have to rework all of my postings because they don’t fit the new one ?

Hi,
The Contempt theme is now retired*, but if you have used it before in your site, then you should be able to find it again in Appearance -> Themes.
(That’s what I understand, at least. Not sure if that really works.)
* Retired themes are not available to new users, only to those who have used it before.

When did you start the site you were using it on? If it was before the theme was retired, you should still be able to use it. You can search for Contempt by name in the Theme dashboard.

Thanks for your prompt answer.
I started it way back in 2005 but it just won’t appear in the list …

Then I’m stumped. On all my sites that I started around the same time, I was able to find Contempt by searching for it in my Dashboard>Appearance>Themes.
I’ve tagged this for Staff help. Please be patient while waiting for them to reply as they have a backlog of posts marked for their attention.

@hfzrhmn-As far as I know, it’s not the date of user account creation, but the date the site was created that determines whether a retired theme is available or not.

my site and account (I don’t really see the difference ?) were both created in 2005 and I think I read somewhere old, retired themes were still available to old users but the problem is nobody says how …
Here’s what i found:
Retired themes are not available to new users, only to those who have used it before.

Again, it’s not users but when the site was created. New sites cannot use themes which were retired before the site was created. Which is why, if you have more than one website here (I have 5 active site), when in the Theme Dashboard, you may see less available themes than in another. For example, on my oldest WPcom website, I have 340 available themes and in my newest website I have far less than that.

No, the problem is I’ve had the old retired theme (contempt) since 2005 and until yesterday when I decided to try another theme (minimalist) which I then discovered would force me to rework every single one of some 1, 500 postings so I decided to go back to the old one but nothing doing and nobody to tell me what to do (is there any pilot on board wordpress.com that you can talk to about it ?)

-
Yes, probably because you’re still with your old themes and you didn’t drop any of them for a new one like I did …
-
wish someone had warned me you can never go back, as happens to be the case, to your old theme if it happens to be retired …
-
-
And to reiterate, you looked for Contempt using the search box found in your site’s Dashboard>Appearance>Themes?
(Because, indeed, you won’t find it if you search the Theme Showcase.)
