Can’t transfer domain

    Hi, I purchased a domain to add onto an existing wordpress website, but when I go to my domain and try to add an existing site, or go through the existing site’s domain adding steps, it leads me to page with this url format:

    https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/(my website) /transfer/other-site/( my new domain)

    which theoretically should be where I can go through the transfer steps. However, this is just a blank page/broken link.

    How can this be resolved, as if I have somehow made an error in purchasing or there’s some incompatibility with the website, I would like to get a refund on my domain before the refund period closes.

    Hi there!

    I can move the domain to your WordPress.com site for you. I assume you want it on the https://seangelini.wordpress.com site, correct?

    Also, I noticed you registered a domain without a WordPress.com plan. A WordPress.com plan is required to set a domain as the primary address. Without it, the domain will redirect to the WordPress.com site address after it’s transferred to that site.

    With a yearly WordPress.com plan, you can register the first year’s domain without any extra cost. If you’d like to upgrade to a yearly WordPress.com plan, I can refund the domain registration fee you already paid.

    Hi, so just to clarify:

    if I purchase a domain from wordpress without a plan, I’m not able to link my existing free wordpress site to that domain?

    So If someone were to type in seangelini.com, it would send them to the website with the ” .wordpress.com ” url? I need to purchase a plan to have all the pages on the website only display “seangelini.com” slash whatever ?

    Also, is it possible to transfer the website to a different hosting service? It seems a little backhanded to require payment both for the hostng and for the plan to make the hosting work….

    also, if I choose to host with another website, am I still able to make edits to the site from the wordpress editor or does it essentially become a static copy of rhe current wordpress site that exists on an external host/domain?

    Yes, without a paid plan, the custom domain would redirect to the free .wordpress.com domain of your site.

    You can use your new domain to another host. However, each host has a hosting fee, that is separate from the domain costs.

    If you go with another “WordPress” (org) host, you should be able to use the WordPress editor and WordPress plugins to build your site without issues.
