Can’t link

If you are experiencing this problem in IE8, can you please make sure Compatibility Mode is turned off and then try again?
-
-
This is going to sound crazy, but did you log out, clear cache, and log back in after turning Compatibility Mode off?
We’re not able to reproduce this in IE8 right now but we know it’s still not working in IE7.

OK, we are still waiting for IE7 solutions. I have changes the thread settings to not resolved.
Here’s a link to Wikipedia’s page about usage share of web browsers:
-
That just shows total IE usage, which included 5.5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 together. If you want to see the breakdown (6, 7, and 8) go here: http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php .
IE7 is under 10% of the total browser market share.

I should clarify that I’m not suggesting WP should not fix the IE7 issues, I believe they should. Personally I liked IE7 much more than IE8, even if it does have more security issues and browser bugs. The whole schizophrenic, multiple personality thing with IE8 was a debacle.
-
I too preferred IE7. Seems Microsoft’s idea about safety is to spam the user with pop-ups. My safety concerns are about the health risks: my mouse arm is protesting…
-
Ahhh, yes, the spam/safety alert pop ups. Microsoft’s version of enhanced pat-downs and full-body scans.

Supposedly the only browser still having an issue with this is IE7.
If you don’t have it already, you can temporarily install Firefox and use it till staff gets the issue ironed out. Or upgrade to IE8.
If you are on IE8, while in the dashboard on the editor page, turn compatibility view off, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try again.
-
Option 1 – choose to use a Firefox browser and switch from the Visual editor to the HTML editor. Select your anchor text text with mouse. Click the link icon and enter the URL into the popup box.
Option 2 – choose to use a Firefox browser and switch from the Visual editor to the HTML editor and enter each link manually.
Option 3 – Refuse to switch browsers and wait for a fix from Staff.

Mine works now (in IE8), thanks! I hadn’t had Compatibility Mode on at all, so I don’t think that was the issue, but I guess when I cleared the cookies I didn’t fully clear the cache. I just now cleared everything and restarted IE, and it works. Thanks!
-
IE sometimes doesn’t clear everything in the cache for whatever reason and I’ve seen times when it had to be cleared two or three times before all of it was gone.
Glad things are working for you now though.

This little thing called CCleaner from Piriform is invaluable. Take care during download and remove check marks so that you do not get some toolbar or Chrome installed with it: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Thanks for solving the problem and implementing the slick new gadget. Nice!
And thanks for all the work you do so that we can have WordPress.com blogs.

Using Firefox, have cleaned out cookies, this still doesnt work for me.
When I press Update, all link code is removed.
