Blog Posts Block not showing latest posts

    Hey,

    I have a Blog Post Block showcasing posts from a specific category, within the Homepage acting as a latest news section.

    Issue is the block is not displaying the newest posts within that category, as soon as any new post is created it will finally display the post within the block and you can see it within the Homepage.

    Here is the example and issue I’m having:

    As you can see I’ve highlighted the new post is missing it isn’t showing in the live site Homepage. Until any new post that gets created it will display it, finally in the live site Homepage. So essentially the live site Homepage Posts Block isn’t displaying always the latest one and is always one behind until any new post created for the website it will display it.

    Thanks for reaching out!

    I’ve taken a look and it looks like the query block on the homepage is set to show posts from the category The Sims, however, it looks like category name is The Sims 4 , hence that change.

    To check, are you looking display, all posts regardless of category?

    @aleone89 I’m wanting to display all posts from the category tagged with ‘The Sims’. As you can see here is the display settings for the block https://i.imgur.com/67eRTvj.png

    Some posts within the category will have post tags like ‘The Sims 4’ but they’re still all tagged with ‘The Sims’ category. And I’m only wanting the category specific posts all to be displayed.

    Another example I’ve removed the category for ‘The Sims’ in display settings for the blog posts block and here is what’s shown on the live site homepage:

    As you can see above ^ the difference between posts the latest newest one as I highlighted before regardless of display settings in the block, it just doesn’t show up in live site Homepage, until as soon as any new posts gets created it will display it.

    Thank you for the additional information!

    The specific blog post you mentioned, even though it’s the newest post on your blog, won’t be displayed in the Blog Posts block because it’s already featured in the Cover Block section at the top of the page.

    Since a post can only appear once on a page, that’s why it doesn’t show up in your “Latest News” section of that Blog Posts block.

    Once you choose a different post to display in your Cover Block section, it will then appear under the Latest News section as expected.

    However, the “Latest Posts” block will display all your most recent posts, regardless of whether they are already included in the Cover block.

    You can try experimenting with placing the “Latest Posts” block in that spot instead and see if it gives you the desired appearance.

    @staff-heroponriki Thanks for the detailed explanation :)

    Unfortunately, the issue still occurs even before I featured the post through the Cover Block, it still won’t display the latest post, so that was a compromise on myside to add the post via a button through the Cover Block.

    For Example, I’ve completely removed the Cover Block and Footer, the highlighted latest post it still not being displayed within the Blog Posts Block. Again as soon as I create any new post it will actually finally display the post.

    Update: Seems the issue is from my “Front Page” template using full site editing. As I’ve just added the Blog Posts Block on a page template, post template and normal pages and seems to be working completely fine, the post is displayed?

    Thanks for reaching back out, and providing that extra issue.

    Update: Seems the issue is from my “Front Page” template using full site editing.

    I’ve taken a closer look at this, and this is in fact a bug that’s on our radar.

    Specifically, when a Blog Post Block is added to a template in the site editor, the first post is omitted from the sequence.

    That’s to say, when the next post is published, Saddle Up With the Sims 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack, will appear.

    As a work around, you could look to replace this with a query block: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/query-loop-block/ instead until the bug is fixed perhaps?

    I’ve added this report to the bug report we have open internally. We appreciate your patience while we fix that.
