anchor links don't work in Chrome
-
Hello
When I use anchor texts in Chrome they lead to somewhere a few paragraphs higher or lower than where they’re supposed toInternet searches on the topic indicate they work fine in Firefox and IE; Testing this theory, I tried it on Firefox and they do work properly as people suggested (My Firefox browser is corrupted o I don’t use it)
My question is this:
Given this ridiculous scenario, if I choose to use the anchor link, will it depend on what browser someone is using to determine if the link will display properly? How do they appear on tablets and phones?I hate to look like an idiot because of a browser issue outside my control but really want to use the anchors.
Any ideas ? Thanks

Are you using one of the browsers and versions of them found at http://browsehappy.com?
Post and example URL for a post that contains the issue you describe using Chrome (which version?) here please.
-
I have never seen that webpage you refer to. My current Chrome browser is version 38.0.2125.104m according to the about page
I have no example to give you because I’m crafting a draft and trying anchor links for the first time; I’m not sure I want to publish knowing they will not work properly; I think that makes me look dumb and I’m already a newbie
Can you help without a published example?

I run only the versions of the browsers found at http://browsehappy.com
I went to your blog post here http://experimentalexpats.com/2014/10/17/fleeing-california-for-malaysia-before-the-real-big-one/
and had no issues with this link
Years before Diane and I planned to retire early using IE, Firefox or Chrome. -

Hi
That’s not the issue I’m questioning; that’s an internal link to another one of my postsI was referring to anchor posts that refer to a place or image on the same page
-
Have you tried these instructions? http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/08/01/links-to-specific-points-on-a-page/
-
yes, I am following that guideline exactly in my draft and as I said, the link jumps to one paragraph and about 3 sentences higher than the start of the place where it should
-
I find the instruction I linked to to be superior to the ones in the support doc at this link http://support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/page-jumps/
Sorry but I cannot help so I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

Hi there,
Can you give me a link to a specific page on your site where the anchor links aren’t working correctly in Chrome? I’d be happy to take a closer look there.

Hi
I think the problem is I’m trying to insert the anchor in the home page before the read more tag; I tried using the full URL in place of the “#anchor”; In that situation it seems to jump to a totally different place when I preview and didn’t do anything at all on the laptop when I saved and looked on another device besides the one I create posts withI removed it from my post for now Can you tell me if I did something wrong in the above example?

I have the same issue with anchor links and wondering if it is to do with the menu as it only happens on a larger screen and not on smaller devices without the menu showing. Hope it’s okay to post this here or should I start a new thread specific to my theme? The page I am using them on is http://soul-destruction.com/voices-of-prostitution-survivors. Thanks.

Anchor links should still work before the more tag, as long as the link includes the full URL with the anchor in it. That sounds like what you described, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. However, it’s hard to say for sure without seeing an example of what you’re describing. :)
I took a look at your page and the anchor links there are working for me — also, your page is set up different from what rodiy2k described. If you don’t mind, it would help if you could start a new forum thread so we can keep track of the two issues separately. Thanks!

Hi
I put the code in the post even though it’s not working; Can you please look and advise? I’ll fix or remove as soon as you reply
ThanksThis is the top part of the code:
<a href="http://experimentalexpats.com/2014/10/18/orangutans-and-luxury-at-borneos-hidden-gem-shangri-la-rasa-ria-resort/#orangutan">Read the story behind the video here</a>
This is the bottom part of the code; Note : I included the rest of the HTML that precedes the spot I want the anchor to go to
<a name="orangutan"></a><h2><em><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Orangutan Viewing at the Reserve:</strong></span></em></h2>
The post is currently on the home page, first story so please visit

Hi there,
The only issue I see is with the anchor you set up — you’ll need to change “name” to “id” to get that to work:
<a id="orangutan"></a>
Please let me know how that goes!
