Adding meta tags and Google Analytics
-
Hi everyone.
New to wordpress and trying to figure out if meta tags (meta title & mate description) can be edited with my wordpress.com blog? Also, can google analytics code be added to my wordpress.com blog?
Thanks in advance for your help.

It’s not possible to edit meta tags on WordPress.com blogs. The title tag in the header is set automatically based on the post or page title you are on.
There also isn’t an option to setup Google Analytics on WordPress.com blogs.

You also might want to take a look at this blog post and the included video from Matt Cutts of Google. They have not paid any attention to meta keywords/tags in the header section due to abuse in quite a long time and in fact, none of the popular search engines do.

Hi Robb,
Google and Bing have both indexed one of your posts. Have you set up a Google webmasters account and verified blog ownership with the big 3 search engines? If not see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/ Also note that wordpress.com provides sitemaps for our blogs. We don’t have to do anything in that regard. If you would like to make a site index see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/
Hope this helps. :) -
And as far as tagging and such, just tag and categorize your posts with a total of 12 or less (combined total) tags and categories, and wordpress will take care of the rest for you. Whenever you make a new post, they automatically ping all the major search engines and services for you. All you really have to worry about is blogging.

Thanks so much everyone. Very impressed by the quick replies. Seems like a great community so far.
Just to answer a couple replies. I knew meta-keywords didn’t mean much anymore (within Google atleast) but I thought meta-titles were still quite important.
Thanks timetheif for the site map help. Ive so far submitted to Google and Yahoo, but not Bing.
Thanks again everyone.
