Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hi fellow bloggers!

Recently I’ve been in my feelings following a 3 year relationship breakup. This has led to lots of overthinking, negative thoughts and insecurity.

I wrote a blog post titled: “The Mind That Never Sleeps” to evoke my feelings at this moment in time.. trying to remain positive☺️

Do have a read and share your thoughts on the blog if you feel inspired to do so:

    1. It just hasn’t been the same without you! Glad you’re back.
Suicide is a subject that terrifies me. I have a few very volatile family members with dramatic tendencies. I live in fear of a ‘cry for help’ that goes wrong.

      1. Have you heard about the fire in the Russian mall? Over 60 people dead, more than 40 of them – kids. Reminded me of your article about the movie theater fire, because again – fire doors were locked…

    1. Great pics! I like your color scheme and set-up. The color especially made that beautiful silver cupcake pop! I wonder if you’d give me your honest opinion about the design of my blog. It’s probably due for a refresh about now but I’m more worried about usability–easy to find the follow button, etc.?–as my latest post will be featured on WordPress Discover soon. Would you mind taking a look?

      1. Love your quote style at the beginning!

I usually use the “floating” follow button that appears when you scroll up on a page. I have have to look around for the button, but caught it in the footer.

      2. Can you create a follow link? in your last paragraph when you mention to follow you? (I’m still new to WordPress and learning, so i don’t know if that’s an option, other than for email sign up link)

  4. Wow! What a difference a day can make. Thanks to Krista for featuring my “Epilogue” post on Discover yesterday, and welcome to 200 new followers in 24 hours…the power of WordPress and its loyal disciples. My latest post is about an inspired evening spent with “Weird Al” at the Apollo Theater in NYC.  While my last trip is now complete, another trip has launched. I’m blessed to have such support from my colleagues. Stop by for a visit.

      1. There was no fair warning this time around as this was a post highlight for Discover– WYSIWYG. When my blog was featured 7 mos. earlier, I got a heads up from Ben. But at that time, I was too remote (without internet) to do any fiddling. Just come to the party dressed as you are; it’s how you originally presented that caught the right person’s eye. And good luck on new fame and fortune. Well deserved!

    1. Your link isn’t working – it took me to my own page. I was able to access your blog by clicking on your name though and I loved your story!
To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.
Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

  5. Hi everyone,

I have a question for you guys. I’m thinking of upgrading my WordPress account to to a personal (purchasing my domain name). Does this mean my URL will update and will this be done automatically or do I need to do this manually?

I look forward to hearing from you guys, you’re all very helpful!

P.S. I posted this morning, it’s called ‘What It’s Like Always Being The Foreigner’. https://bornintothewildlife.wordpress.com/2018/03/26/what-its-like-always-being-the-foreigner/

Does anyone else have a similar experience?

    1. I have an Irish Mother, an English father and I’m now married to an American and living in the US! In Ireland I was always “half English”, in England I was always “half Irish” in America – Well you know how it is!!

    2. It will be done automatically , but just make sure you have a custom domain picked out and added to your cart before you check out…took me a little time to figure it out…i upgraded a few weeks ago…process is seamless

  6. Hey fellow bloggers,
I just launched a new post about the strangest traditions and festivals around the world: https://197travelstamps.com/strangest-traditions-and-festivals/
Currently, the article lists the 5 strangest traditions and festivals. But the idea is to expand it further. So if anyone of you knows about an amazing tradition or festival that would fit my post, I would be happy if you could leave me a comment and I will try to integrate it.
We are people from all over the world here and I am sure we can find some more awesome traditions in addition to jumping over babies, fire cracker festivals and the others I have mentioned so far.
Happy blogging and a happy week to all,
    Mike

    1. Well, what is weird to one person is perfectly normal to someone else.

In the UK we have village festivals rolling cheeses downhill, carrying barrels of burning tar on shoulders, firing shotguns in orchards at the dead of a winter night and dancing around a wooden horse on May Day!!!
To an outsider all decidedly “different” and probably “weird,” I guess it’s part of the rich tapestry that makes humans so interesting!

Good thought provoking writing, I loved it.

      1. I love the cheese rolling festival and Hogrider mentioned!

Have you also thought about adding some of the wacky festivals in Japan, they have loooads! This is one of my favorites, Honen matsuri or penis festival. It is sooo fun!

    3. How interesting! It’s so amazing that there are so many different cultures in our world and how different (or perhaps similar) they may be from ours. Every culture has the ability to open our eyes and show us a new perspective on something.
