First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  2. Firstly, it’s good to share the URL of the post you’d like us to read. And then share the love and read and comment on a few other blogs. 🙂
Secondly, you can add your social media links to your blog depending on your social followers you can gain a lot of traction with that. Depending on your theme you may find a group on Facebook that you share in. My Twitter feed is rubbish to be honest, but then it’s mostly anonymous.
Thirdly, use tags and categories up to a max of 15 combined and these help search engines find your posts. Think about titles, I’ve a couple that are regularly picked up by search engines 3-4 times a week and I’m convinced that I’ve inadvertently chosen the search terms that people use for my title. I’m off to read your blog! 🙂
    Hope this helps. 🙂

      1. The original comment was likely deleted because either it was a duplicate or the post shared was over a month old. I’m going to leave your comment up for all to see — lots of good advice that others will appreciate!

    1. Your post hit home for me today. Thing 2 is in middle of a sleep regression and Thing 1 had a snow day and has been pushing every button I have. I love them and would give my life for them, but yes, life sure is chaotic! Keep sharing 🙂

  4. Hello fellow bloggers 🙂
So, I, along with a small team have started a new blog where we’re going to review books and conduct interview of authors. Our focus will be mainly on new authors to help them in #spreadingtheword. Here’s the link of our first blog~ https://booksoverbrew.wordpress.com/2017/12/29/pretty-stolen-dolls-book-review/

Hope you’ll like it and if anyone of you have just published a book, we would be happy to review it 🙂

    1. Fun blog! I left a comment on one of the posts. The only improvement I would suggest would be to try to find time to write something on the about page, and see if you can clean up other places where the site is pre-programmed with text that you don’t want 🙂

  6. My blog is a deep look into the dangerous and dark path I was on and the freedom I’ve found. The motivation for my blog is to let people see into my life completely, the very real humility I practice sharing, so one may find hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My life is not my own, but bought at a price.

    Let’s Do This!!

    1. Hi withoutadoubt,

I notice that you are using a lot of tags on your posts. Note that if you want to have your posts appear in the WordPress.com Reader, you need to keep them to a maximum of 15 tags and categories combined. The Reader thinks you’re spamming with so many tags and so it’s important to cut down to only the tags and categories most relevant to your post so that your readership can find you by searching there. Here are some tips on tagging you might find useful.

    1. Best of luck with the new blog – it can be quite easy to get discouraged early on (and I may only be about two weeks in) but you have to persevere with it and keep going! Your first post was beautifully written; you really do have a talent that you must continue to share! Keep it up and I can’t wait to read more from you! 🙂

    1. Wow your blog is great! Well done on creating such a great look for your blog as well – the fact that you’ve personalised your about page (which not a lot of new bloggers do straight away) already makes it much easier for us to get to know you! Keep up the good work 🙂

    1. Firstly, congratulations on your baby boy! My daughter is about a month and a half older and I almost named her Levi (it’s the boy name we had picked out and I loved it so much I wanted to use it anyway but my husband didn’t love that idea). Secondly, thank you for writing about breastfeeding. I struggled a lot with my first and was always looking for information. I’m glad you persevered and are going 4 months strong. It gets easier and easier and my second baby has been a dream so far. I definitely think adding some personal anecdotes along the way will help other first time mommas relate to you 🙂 Keep it up!
