To find, copy, and paste your link:

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Great visual imagery and lovely sentiment behind your words.
My only suggestion would be to possibly reduce the size of the picture so the viewer/reader does not have to scroll. You might have a greater impact with the whole picture seen immediately. 🙂

      1. It’s quite easy on this post just edit and then . . . or wait till your next post.
When you’ve inserted your pic, if you click on it little boxes appear in the corners – just drag those to the size you require. You can still centre etc. 🙂

    1. Hi, great post! Liked!
You have not yet filled in your about page and bloggers do check this to find out more about the author. Also you still have a text widget to the right of the screen. If you customise your site you can fix these in a couple of minutes.
      Hope this helps 🙂

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of individual posts (that is, not on your homepage) — you can remove or edit that by going to view one of your posts, then going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

(For more on widgets, what they’re for, and how to use them, check out https://learn.wordpress.com/get-flashy/)

    1. There are a *large* number of parenting blogs out there, but only a few of them are made by dads. Your blog is a great reminder that DADS ARE PARENTS TOO.

(by the way, on the off chance you might actually have some parental downtime, go check out the Customizer – you can use it to talk more about yourself in the About page and even play around to see how your blog theme works)

    2. What a fantastic read!! It’s a good lesson (I think whether someone is a parent or just in general). Your writing is honest and approachable; I don’t think it’ll take you long before your blogging kicks off! Best of luck on the blogging but most importantly for being a dad!!

      1. Thank you!
My mom loves being a grandmother so I can imagine! You get all the love and cuddles, and by the end of the day you have a clean house because they go back home! Haha

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

    1. Hi! I love the look of your blog 🙂 I’m new too, but from what I understand an About page is important. Have you considered adding one?

  1. Love this idea of First Friday!

Here’s the link to my first blog post: https://thewholelistickitchen.wordpress.com/

I posted it yesterday after wanting to start a blog for 4 years now. It’s inspiration for the new year whilst reflecting back on 2017. The whole blog is going to be about health and wellbeing, including recipes that nourish body, mind and soul and articles about emotional wellbeing.

I also have an instagram page which I’ve had since June so you can check that out too as it gives you more of an idea as to what The Wholelistic Kitchen will be about.

Hope you guys like it! And I can’t wait to read your first blog posts too. Thanks 🙂

    1. ‘Wholelistic’ kitchen, huh? You must’ve had that in your pocket for a *very* long time, no?

Anyway, you’ve got quite a few social media buttons in your page, but they don’t connect to your pages in particular. If you’ve got some social media you want to attach to your blog, you can go to Customizer and link your social media to each button (or remove them if you don’t have any you want to use at the moment). Customizer may have a button for Instagram and you could link to your Instagram page.

      1. Yeah I’m still new to WordPress and how it works so I didn’t know how to remove them but I’ll get that sorted, thanks

    1. Hi, I have some constructive feedback for you. Firstly your blog: you still have a text widget on your home page – you can change this via the customiser. Also, you have not yet filled your about page. Bloggers/readers do check this to find out a little bit more about the author.
About your text: usually you would have one or two spaces between the full-stop and the start of the next word this helps the ‘readers eye’ know that a new sentence is beginning. Also use a capital letter at the start of each sentence.
To make it easier to read it is also advisable to have shorter paragraphs, it also makes it look good. It does break up the block text.
If you can add a photo/image or two it would help break up the text also.
Please don’t be disheartened by my feedback because a quick edit will sort everything out – your actual post content is really very good and has a lot of meaning.
      Hope this helps 🙂
