First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hi guys! I started my blog site last year but wasn’t really that active because I was still adjusting with my life here New Zealand. But everything is cool now, and I am completely settled. Can you please follow me via the link below? I’ll be posting all sorts of photos about NZ’s people, culture, food and, of course, the different places you can go to when you visit NZ.

Would also love to hear your comments on how I can improve my posts and blog site. Thanks much!!! Cheers! 😁

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      1. Oh my! Thank you so much for this Michelle! Was thinking the other way around – the more the tags, the more frequent my page/post will show up. I will delete some of my tags and will leave the relevant ones. Again, thank you so much! Big help! =)

  2. This is a post about my friend. She’s an awesome person who is full of love and joy. But sometimes we all get that confusion whether we should change ourselves just because people tend to exploit our goodness. This is a post to remind her that she’ll always be loved for who she is by the people who will love her forever

  3. Hello everyone! My name’s Mary and I’m 17. I recently started my blog and it’s mostly aimed at advice for other young writers but I hope it would be interesting to anyone.
https://conwaywrites.wordpress.com/2017/11/12/why-being-a-young-writer-is-tough/ was my first post where I wrote about the challenges we face and how to overcome them.
I’ve got a couple of other posts with writing tips and also some news about my book, which is actually out today! It’s a sweet romance novella called ‘A Grey Valentine’s’ and there’s more information about it on my blog if you’re interested.
I’m looking forwards to checking out everyone else’s blogs!

    1. Welcome 🙂

If you look over to the right of your posts, you’ll see a bit of placeholder text — it’s meant to help you learn how to work with widgets, and you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

(For more on widgets, what they’re for, and how to use them, check out https://learn.wordpress.com/get-flashy/)

Also, a tip — when you write in all capital letters, it makes it harder to read. I’d definitely recommend writing with normal capitalization.

    1. I think you should first post about some topic. It could be anything, from Art to Social issues, from food to conservation of nature or anything that fires you up to write about it. BTW you should actually first create a post and then ask for help or feedback, because no one can view your blog unless you first write a post. 🙂

    1. Your blog looks loooovelyyy! And I seriously love the pics.
However, I think you need to improve your grammar a bit and you should write something meaningful to you, like art, fashion, etc etc… Those two are the most important in blogging.
Last but not the least, keep up your creativity. 😀

    2. Hi there! Quick thing I just noticed! Your about me page is empty! and the background tends to clash with the font, distracting for the eyes! Just my thoughts! 🙂

  4. Hey everyone!

I’ve literally just found this First Friday thing (and I know I’m about 9hours too late!!) but I think it’s such a great idea! I started my blog on the 1st November and I post about my acting journey, my thoughts on the business and then I throw in some good ol’ light hearted lifestyle content too…

So please take a look and left me know what you think, and any advice would be appreciated! I haven’t pushed it on social media yet (there’s no going back once you do!) so any advice would be appreciated!

  5. I have a question (for the Daily Post mainly) about the Community Pool…
For how long exactly is the comments section open? I am unable to access the comments section on Saturdays and I don’t write posts on any other day. I’m a new blogger and I would like to have some feedback about my posts.

    1. Comments are typically open for the whole week, but on occasion are closed a little early when the pool gets especially full. You can share your posts any time, though; it doesn’t need to be on the day they’re published. If you find the pool closed on a Saturday, feel free to post on Monday if you’re able.

  6. Hi guys!! So excited to see this post. I just started my new blog today – it’s basically a lot of inspirational thoughts, and a few day to day things we all would’ve faced. I am also a big fan of poetry, and would be positing a few of my own poems shortly.

My first post if about “courage”. I wish you would find the time to read it, and would love to hear all of your thoughts. Thanks! ❤️

    1. Hi!
      Welcome to WordPress!
Your site looks great but, I noticed that you haven’t posted anything under the ‘About’ page. Giving a brief description about your blog in the ‘About’ page helps the visitors understand the blog better!
      Good luck!
