Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Happy Monday everyone!

Hope everyone has had a good day so far! This week I wanted to share with you one of my (favourite!) posts that I have created. I show you my favourite “Instagram worthy” spots around Dubai! You can find the link to this post below!

    https://josiearana.com/2017/09/20/dubai-most-instagram-worthy-spots/

I’m hoping to get more consistent with my posting and restricting it to a post every two weeks. Some of my followers know that I’m currently in graduate school doing my masters, and I also travel a lot, so I feel like this will be the best way to stay consistent and produce content that I love!

Hope you enjoy this post and I would love to hear your feedback and read your posts too!

      1. Thank you, Donna! Yes, as I mentioned I am currently doing a masters and have quite a lot of work, I have found that I rather would space out my blog posts (a.k.a every two weeks or so) as I want to be able to not only put in as much effort as I want it to be but also not force work as I’m sure that would translate!

        Thanks again!

  2. Hello Everyone, Happy New Week!

This is an old post I’d like to share… I teach students in architecture, and this post shows images of some of the best work that was produced by the students last year (from Year 1 to Year 5). I enjoy looking these images to try to understand their ideas – ideas which are developed with some sense of reality, but with a healthy amount of creative freedom!

Thanks for checking it out – I’d love to hear your first impressions.

      1. Thanks – I work in practice four days out of five – where pragmatic concerns are often very important – teaching at college for one day is a great way to engage with some of the ‘weirder’ ideas!

Thanks for checking out the link!

  3. Hello everybody, Simon from To Cut a Short Story Short here with my latest post. This time it’s Monasticity, a tale of beer, books and marital strife! (1000 words). I hope you enjoy it!

    https://simonjwood.wordpress.com/2017/11/25/monasticity/

Also, I have some promotional codes left for FREE copies of my new audiobook, To Cut a Short Story Short: 111 Little Stories, the ‘best of my blog’ (up to June 2017). If you’d like one, please click the ‘Free Audiobook!’ link in the ‘recent posts’ sidebar on my blog. That also gives you full details of how to obtain and download it. It’s narrated by Angus Freathy, who has done 15 audiobooks to date. I think his ‘voices’ really bring the stories to life!

    1. Just commented on your post, in summary I loved it! The story was so unexpected, definitely not predictable. I noticed one thing on your blog, when I clicked menu, there was still a section that said TEXT WIDGET, you can edit this or you can delete this. I think it will make your blog look better tidying up this one thing =). Hope this helps!

    1. I feel this is needed by everyone, so it is definitely worth saving. Thanks for sharing.

In between; please find time to check my last post. Lately I started a series on “resources”, but I took a totally different direction in discussing it. Below is the link to my latest post titled ” leadership”, tell me what you think. Thanks.🙏

  4. I have just celebrated two years of blogging https://crowdedmind.co/2017/11/26/the-advice-safe-3/#more-22239 is my latest https://wordpress.com/post/crowdedmind.co/69 was my first. I have matured quite a bit, look at the difference! I have just wasted too much time going through my old posts, but glad I did. It confirms advise I was given at the start, just keep writing, your style and themes will develop. JUST WRITE is good advice.

  5. Hey there swimmers and floaters and toe dippers alike! How’s everyone doing? Well I hope! 😃

Over at my blog, I run a daily word of the day style a la British English words and phrases, with a side speciality in Irish and Scottish and Australian words too! I mostly dabble in flash fiction, but poetry is a new avenue I’m loving to explore. Today I tried my hand at suspense and mystery.

Just hit 300 followers and I can’t thank everyone enough, especially since I just hit 10,000 views a few days ago. Less than a year into this and I am humbled every single day.

    1. Please do New Zealand words too! I remember needing to change my vocabulary a lot when moving to the UK otherwise I would be shouted at my peers (teenagers of course), movie theatre vs cinema was a poplar one to get told off for Haha. A lot of people are also surprised to find out that there are a lot of differences between Australia and NZ in terms of the English language. Most of which, is slang… Nice blog =)

      1. Hey, thanks! I’ve done a couple that are considered both Australian and NZ words. I try to keep my eyes out for them! Thank you for the follow as well as the long comment. 😁

  6. Hello to all the readers and writers out here!

Recently I wrote a poem and would love to know what you think about it! I feel that poetry is one of the best possible ways of understanding and calming the turmoils of emotions that one goes through.

Also, on closer notice, you’ll see five WordPress icons on my site (in the menu). They are thumbnails for the five pages that I have. However, I am unable to remove them or replace them by some pictures. Adding featured images also didn’t help. I would be extremely glad if anybody could help me out with that!

Here’s the link to my poem:

    Hope you like it!

    1. Hmmm… not sure… Did you play with the customize tool? Do you have more than 1 Menu option? That would be my first guess. Or maybe it’s a widget of some sorts? Sorry for the shots in the dark, but that is what I would take a look at. If not, post on the forums. There’s a bunch of knowledgeable people there.

      1. What a question! I’m disseminating history of events or people that I find fascinating. I’m not sure that there is a message with that (I haven’t thought too deeply). It’s an ‘ooh that’s interesting! I’ll write about that!’ process.

  8. Hi everyone! My latest post is about becoming comfortable with crying, how I used to view it in the past, and how I view it now. I hope you enjoy it 😊https://wp.me/p9eZP9-21

    1. You know what? I related to this a lot more than I initially thought I would lol so shame on me for that; but I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read it! 😁 I have the tendency to cry when extremely frustrated; but then I’d get teased for how easily I cried in books or movies. I was more free expressing myself that way than in “reality” so to speak. I think I’ve gotten better. Your post has definitely given me a new perspective. Thank you for sharing!! 💫💜

    2. I was talking with my wife at the weekend about our respective tendencies to cry – it comes frequently to me, and much less to her. Then we were chatting with an old friend of mine, and he can’t remember the last time he cried.

I’m constantly amazed by the scale of the differences that can exist between members of the same species! Humanity is extraordinary!
