Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello everybody, Simon from To Cut a Short Story Short here with my latest post. This time it’s a longer version of one of my most popular stories, I Dream of Diwana. I wrote a few extra scenes to expand it from 850 to 2000 words. I hope you like it!

  2. The Transition

Hey guys! It’s been a while since I’ve contributed to the community pool and I’m glad to be back! Here’s a little something describing the troubles associated with suppressing the inner “you” for the benefit of others…I was aiming for funny, as always! Hope I deliver 😊

  3. Thinking of giving up? Think again!
Check out today’s Manhood Monday post: Retreat is NOT an option. (1 min read time)
    https://wp.me/p876wZ-Sx
    Excerpt:
I had just moved one of my pieces backward when he slowly shook his head and stopped me. “Joseph,” he said, in a voice that resonated with wisdom. “once you start retreating, you never stop.”

  5. Good afternoon, swimmers. (Well, tough day for us in the U.S., but here we are.)

I’m nearing 100 followers–and I’m so psyched! I’d love to hear how other swimmers celebrated milestones on their blogs. I’m thinking maybe a guest post–or co-post? Thoughts?

Would also love your feedback on my latest author Q&A: https://rustbeltgirlblog.wordpress.com/2017/11/02/author-qa-with-paul-hertneky-of-rust-belt-boy-stories-of-an-american-childhood/

  6. I got a lot of feedback on my last music related post in here so I’m hoping this one works the same!
I recently posted a review of Country-Pop singer Kelsea Ballerini’s new album Unapologetically https://everythingaftereighteen.wordpress.com/2017/11/04/review-kelsea-ballerinis-unapologetically/
I’d love it if you could read my post and maybe give some feedback and I hope it encourages you to go check out the album!
    Thank you, Georgie xo

    1. Wonderful post! Great suggestions. I was a NICU mom (for one of my two twin boys), and the fatigue while trying to hold it all together–one newborn at home, one at the hospital–was terrible. Someone needed to tell me to take a nap–make me take a nap! The online meal sign-up sites hadn’t gotten going yet, but a bunch of meals (that I didn’t need to organize on 2 hours of sleep) would have been lovely. And overnight help at home–a good girlfriend or sister to take over the rocking and soothing, that would have helped too.

  7. Hello people,

    Writers advice needed!

It’s been a very long time since I’ve last written short stories, although I love to. I used to write them as I child (lots of fanfics) and was way more confident with the plot basis I used to come up with. Now, I just feel like unless my writing can be exceptional, my short stories would be too trivial. Whenever some idea comes to my mind, I feel like my ideas aren’t that great or I don’t truly know how to shape them in a creative way. I’m keen on stories that could potential have deep philosophical meanings. Anyways, I really want to come back to writing short stories (I’d even like to try out new things, and perhaps mix it up with some poetry). I’d love to hear your input on the matter!

By the way, I’d appreciate some feedback on my poetry at http://mywordsintheuniverse.wordpress.com

All comments are returned 🙂 x

  8. Hello friends! I am in need of major feedback this week, if you’re able and willing! As always, I will return the favor!

My blog is about a trip aboard a sailboat, purchased for one dollar, named “Patches.”

    1. I just moved my blog from a wordpress.com to a self hosted wordpress.org site this past week. Any feedback on layout, theme, and even the “About page” would be awesome!

    http://www.chasingpatches.com/

    2. There is also a new post on my page today about a one night trip we took to New Orleans, LA. Comments and feedback on this post are more than welcome!

    Check it out here: https://www.chasingpatches.com/2017/11/06/side-trip-new-orleans-la/

    3. The last thing that I need help with, is putting a WordPress follow button on my new site. Does anybody know if this is still possible with the .org self hosted site? I have the email subscription form, and I transferred over my WordPress followers from my old blog to the new one, but can’t seem to find a widget or way to put a new “Subscribe via WordPress” button.

      1. I enjoyed your writing! you have some captivating ideas- I look forward to seeing more! Did you recently make your site? I noticed there is a text widget on the side without anything. You should add a follow button/email signup/ or some info about you : )

      2. Thank you so much for making time. I’m hoping to write more like those. Yeah, I’m new to this WordPress. Will have to learn a lot and renovate the site in the coming days. Once again Thank you 🙂 I really appreciate your feedback. Cheers.

  10. I’m very excited to present my latest post, celebrating my fourth year of my blog Soundtrack Of A Photograph. I combine my love of photography and my love of music. For this post I wrote about all the elements that go into a live concert, from start to finish. Music by way of my favorite live album of all time-Bob Seger’s Live Bullet.
