First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you. It’s a relatively short read packed with some good food for thought. I immediately shared your article on FB and tagged a friend whom I know needs to hear this right now. It’s usable and shareable.

    3. Awesome post!!
You are absolutely right.. sometimes we overthink on petty issues that actually don’t matter much. And the biggest pest of carefree behaviour is the thought, ” what people will think” . I’m glad you have gone past all these clumsy things and standing now, confident and strong.
      Cheers to you!!🙂

Also, you have a text widget that you aren’t using, so I suggest you could delete it using the customizer!
Otherwise I like the layout and everything!🌸❤️

    1. Woww.. I loved your thoughts.
They are equally considerable for both the parents and the children.
Your writing is really mature and I must congratulate you for being such a skilled writer.
      Keep up the good work.

    2. A very interesting and insightful post. I found myself comparing it to my childhood and the types of behaviors and perspectives my parents reinforced in me and my sisters. If we saw someone in need of assistance, we were expected to help and scolded if we didn’t. Reading your post made me more appreciative of the principles my folks imparted. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

  1. Hi everyone. It’s my second Friday here and I just want to thank all those who visited my blog last week. I amkindly asking for a few minutes out your busy schedule to visit my blog at http://ventalks.wordpress.com and give me a critic so I can be able to identify my weakness and strengths.
I have changed my theme to reflect my island vibes.
Thank you for this platform I think its great.

    1. I like the layout and overall vibe of your blog. I grew up on an island myself (though, one not nearly as warm as in Jamaica), so I’m a little enamored with the idea that you’ll be pulling from your experiences and island lifestyle!

    2. My first thought upon seeing your blog was; this is an Asian themed blog.
What gave me that impression is the font you are using along with the shade of red. It made me think of China, Cambodia or even Vietnam – those are colors you will see all over. Unfortunately, I have no knowledge or recommendations as I am about as clueless as they come in the blogging world. These are purely my first thoughts upon seeing your site. I only mention this because you say you are going for an “island vibe”?

Your story about the young girl who died comes across with a lot of empathy for her and her family and boating crew. Good luck and I hope to read more very soon.

      1. Thank you for reading. Unfortunately my blog had a background of picture of the beach, however someone suggested I changed it as it made the menu difficult to decipher which was true. So far now I settle for a red background until I find a nicer picture to blend in.
        Thank you for reading.

  2. Hello everyone, thanks for the great opportunity to add and receive feedback from this community. I have just started blogging (woohoo!)

I chose the sciences/maths just to avoid writing (if only I knew that writing skill find their way to haunt you or more like it’s needed in all things 😃). My passion for debunking myths and researching proven studies on skincare products made me start a blog.

Please do take a look at https://asmebeauty.blog/2017/10/28/why-argan-oil-is-so-good-for-your-hair-and-skin/ and let me know how I can improve. Thanks 🙂

    1. Really interesting premise for a blog and one that I haven’t yet come across, so I’m excited to check yours out. Specifically the debunking of skincare myths and studies. There are so many of these that I am constantly having to sift through and figure out which ones are and aren’t legitimate.

    2. Enjoyed your article and like the fact that you list your sources below. I have always been wary of the beauty industry and all they put into products that are essentially harmful to us. I think women should be much more informed about the hazardous chemicals that go into our so-called “beauty” products and should learn to read the labels before applying it all over. Your break down of the chemical components is educational along with the suggestions of use.

Something that I would personally like to see is authors as yourself education people/women about being aware of false labeling. For example, I have seen products labeled as “Argan Oils” that contain as little as 5% actual Argan. The rest is made up with fillers. So when you write, tell people how to identify the good from the bad.

      Just my thoughts. Good luck!

My only feedback is that as the seams and informational or persuasive blog post, you might add a little more in there about how this is beneficial in your own life. Perhaps how you have been rewarded through this information.

    2. Hi!
I read your post titled ‘extras’ which talks about depression. I really like the post.
A few months back, I did a research on depression. I found out that many people are unable to distinguish between ‘sadness’ and ‘depression’. Some think that they’re almost the same things. Well, I wish to let everyone know that depression and sadness are NOT AT ALL the same things. Sadness is something that can be overcome by indulging into an activity the person loves. However, depression is the very thing that separates the person from the thing she/he loves doing. Depression has its own types, as you’ve told us about a few.
I like the fact that you’ve included a lot of facts!
      Happy Friday!🍁

Each story will be unique, with such a diverse range of writing topics. Great start! As a fellow writer, I encourage you to keep it up. This is a really supportive online community, so I think you’ll find the encouragement and constructive feedback you’re seeking. 🙂

  3. FIRST EVER BLOG OF MY LIFE!!

I Love to write. Write for myself with a blend of my own experiences and then going on to touch the dots revolving around the experience in a general and a current scenaric way to appal to the readers with a hope that they adopt some of those thigs in their own lives. I always hope people get inspired and adopt somethig in their life from my writing. Even if one person is inspired, it really makes me happy for a long time.

    1. I enjoyed reading your post. It reminds me of something my English teacher told me one time. That I tend to write as a writer. I was very confused when she first told me this, until she went on to explain that my thoughts and words are very powerful, however I need to hone them in to make them easier to read. I am the worst at spelling and make simple grammar mistakes often, sometimes at will. But just as in language class, adapting your writing for the reader will make you more successful. My advice to you is to reread through your work, break up some of the larger chunks, add commas and periods where necessary. And keep writing, because you have a great voice and a great message. In no way am I trying to discourage you, only to strengthen you as a writer. Good luck and I hope you find success.

      1. Thats appreciable actually in two ways. One in you took considerable amount of time to read so that you found the scope of improvements and the other is you shared your thoughts to me. I really appreciate that. And yeah I find it difficult to add commas, periods and also full stops most of the times. I know this is my biggest flaw in writing. But I can’t use those stuffs because there is so much I want to convey and if I use commas and periods, the message gets abruptly stopped and even if I convey in the next sentence it loses it sheen and significance is some way I guess. Thats what I feel and thats why I abstain from using those pounctuation marks.

I expect a cure for this problem from you as you sound as very proficient and well versed writer.

    1. Also, i was wondering whether we should make a community of Indian bloggers. We can all discuss about the topics which Indians love, or what is the straighten of Indian readers on WordPress, and together we can make strategies to strengthen Indian WordPress blogs. A great use of our population!

    1. I read your post titled “Reality in a Nutshell”. It ‘s a topic I definitely relate to, as I so often fixate on the writing of others, and how much better it is than my own. I toil over how to effectively set myself apart, not only as a writer and blogger in the WordPress realm, but as a writer in the literary world too. It’s incredibly disheartening at times, and there have been periods where I altogether abandon the writing practice. Despite the frustration I sometimes feel, I always come back to writing, because in the end, it’s the most fulfilling mode of personal expression for me. I think that’s why this community is so beneficial. It’s encouraging and opens your writing up to a wider audience. Your following may feel ‘small’ at times, but it’s still impactful to others, which is really wonderful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I look forward to reading more!

      1. I’m glad you relate. I definitely feel that other writers have better expression than me. But then I realize, as you said, that it takes many people to make this world. If I can just please one person out there with my words, or help them feel understood, or even just entertain them for a while, I’ll be content with my work. Thanks for your feedback!

    1. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      2. Okay. If I may?… Your header image should transcend any and all about what your blog is supposed to be, something that you can use for many posts about everything or anything. ie an image of your favorite sunset in India, or a street food scene, or a Bollywood poster.
