Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. I don’t listen to podcasts and I’ve only seen a few episodes of Outlander, but yikes, that podcast you ranted about sounds pretty hard to tolerate. The good news is, since everyone seems to be starting podcasts these days, there are probably plenty others to choose from, no matter what topic you’re interested in.

    1. Very cute blurb about the pockets 🙂 I got a good chuckle. It is not something I have thought of much, but you are completely right!!!! Thankfully almost every dress I own has pockets now.

As for your site, I like the cleanliness of it all. It is easy to read and sort through. You may want to enable comments on your about page, and edit the text on your contact page to say something more personal (i.e. I would love to hear from you!) instead of the generic “this is a comment page…”

  1. Hey y’all I just started a blog yesterday on my Avon business and advice and I would love to know if I’m heading in the right direction to advertise my products, thank you so much as I am 1 day in as a blogger and learning as I go.

      1. Simply copy and paste the link you’re trying to direct people to. Easy!

As far as gaining followers, my advise is to spend more time on other people’s blogs than you do on your own. You have to invest in the communities you wish to influence. Growing a readership is hard and time consuming thus demands respect. Remember, you can’t expect people to follow you if you aren’t also contributing. Good luck!

  2. I’d like to invite everyone to come by and check out my poem of the week, “And Set Them on the Breeze.” I wrote this one within the last few weeks, and like so many, there’s depth below the surface. How deep I’m not sure, but there’s depth. I was also able to find a good image to go along with it. Comments and feedback are always welcome, and please leave them in the comments section of the post page, and click the like button on the post page. If you like what you see, feel free to browse around, and follow along so you don’t miss anything as I post several times a week. Thanks in advance.

    1. Thank you for sharing!!

Your site is lovely. I think the header photo is fantastic, and your have organized and presented your posts very well.

Our latest post is very interesting. You have written openly and honestly on a very personal topic. This is hard to do – so great work!!

One small suggestion I have is to run your draft through a spell checker so that the reader won’t be distracted by these things, thus enabling them to focus on your words.

      love and peace

  4. I need help. A lot of help. I’m not sure what I’m doing.
I have no idea why I started a blog, other than I read a hundred times that authors need blogs.
So, I started with the most prominent thing on my mind, my romantic entanglements. I thought my future readers would like to know about me and why I prefer fantasy.
Then, I read that I need to blog about the same subject I write about. Uh…
How do I write about what I write about when I don’t know what I’m going to write about until I write it?
I don’t know what to ask for, that’s how lost I am.
Any help would be welcome (or at least tolerated. Just kidding.).

    1. Find blogging groups, perhaps? They’ve gone through the kind of struggles that some bloggers have gone through. Sometimes the will to blog isn’t there, or the material just isn’t coming up, or serendipity is just *really* fickle…those who have blogged long enough know the struggle all too well, and it’s often recurring.

Personally, I just sort of power through it until something clicks. When it does, it’s massive re-writes, post after post gets scheduled, all to the tune of three cups of black coffee and a square or two of dark, dark chocolate.

  5. I’d like to invite everyone to come by and check out a photography piece, “Full Moon Fever.” Last weekend the moon was high and full and I took a few photographs as clouds swarmed about it. I had a hard time choosing which one to post, but this one turned out the best. Comments and feedback are always welcome, and please leave them in the comments section of the post page, and click the like button on the post page. If you like what you see, feel free to browse around, and follow along so you don’t miss anything as I post several times a week. Thanks in advance.

  6. Greetings fellow bloggers,

Storytelling has been an integral part of our society. In absence of maintaining records in the past, it was through the medium of storytelling that one generation was able to convey the moral & ethical values of their tradition to the next generation. Besides that, I have always felt that the art of storytelling always carries a unique humanistic touch that unites the hearts of the tale-teller & the listener in a very mystic way. So this poem pertains to art of storytelling from the perspective of a storyteller & expresses the fact as to how a true storyteller actually weaves his/her magic & how important the listeners are to them. Following is the link to the poem:

Honest feedbacks would be highly appreciated

    Warm Regards,
    Sidharth

    1. I enjoyed your post. Your points are well-taken. You could improve the ease of reading by breaking up some of the run-on sentences. Following is an example of one that I broke apart. “The Bible is filled with important verses for us in our everyday lives. I know for us as Christians this goes without saying. There’s one verse that is so important to us as followers of Christ today. We live in a world that wants to do its best to wipe us from history. It’s a world that would happily forget about the good we as the collective church have done over the years. Yet it will hold any failings we have over our heads. It’s a world that not only rejects us, but mocks us. The verse that’s so important for us today is Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” https://gracelead.co

  7. Hi Everyone!

I haven’t blogged much this summer- but the one piece I have been working on for a week just went live today. If you love paranormal stories (especially true ones) or a bit of a mystery… I invite you to read my latest piece. It is a long read- but I would love feedback or to hear other ‘encounters’ – Skeptics are welcome too! 😉

  8. Hi Everyone!
I would love feedback on a post I wrote. This post also requests participation from the audience, and I would be honored if you would consider participating. The post is about defining your own identity, and not letting the past define you. Influence, yes, but not be the ultimate determining factor of who you are. You get to define yourself.

I really poured a lot of myself into this piece (which was terrifying), and I would love to hear whether or not the call to action is adequate or even realistic. All feedback is greatly welcomed.
