Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. No need to feel guilty about loving the Moldy Peaches, they’re awesome! Kimya Dawson is one of my favourite songwriters around, and I know lots of artists in the indie world love her stuff. Nicely written and interesting stuff anyway 🙂

      1. I like your colors and header image. My biggest piece advice would be to go in and edit the text widget on the right-hand side, as well as the about page. That would be a good place to start and then get to posting! 🙂 Good luck!

    1. Overall your blog clean and has a simple layout, making it easier to navigate and to read.

Though I have a few tips:

The About Page looks fine though you could add some more detail about yourself or the potential you have for your blog, this will help other bloggers learn more about you. Also, you could add an image to make it visually appealing and emphasise what you’ve written.

The first post you’ve published is great so far, but you could split the middle section into paragraphs so that it’s easier to follow, you could add images, again to make it visually appealing.

Another thing you should add would be more widgets, such as a follow button, or one to display your latest/most popular posts (for when that happens in the future). And to also add social media widgets so that you can communicate with others and share your blog links on other platforms.

      Hope this was useful!!

  1. Hey all!
I wrote a new post about our real fears, the ones which most of us deny to accept. And the good thing about it? I made this poem using mirakee and it’s endless backgrounds! Sure guys check it out! And of course, if you have mirakee already, do let me know your username so that I can check out your content!
    Here’s the post:

    I love y’all 😘😘

      1. Oh.. mirakee is an app which you can find in the play store if you’re using an Android device. It’s for writers who can have beautiful backgrounds and structure for their writings. Thank you so much for reading!

    1. On Friday, I heard a comedian tell where he got his inspiration. He said he has trained himself to be observant of everything around him. I think that approach could work for you. In everything you notice, ask yourself if there is something about it that sparks your imagination. https://gracelead.co

    2. I’m not a CW blogger and I hardly consider myself creative but perhaps an easy place to start is from the Daily Post’s daily writing prompts.

    1. Nice clean site, looks professional! I did notice you used over 15 tags, and I believe that is the magic limit for search engines. So you may want to narrow them down slightly to improve the likelihood of people finding your site!

  2. Hi Everyone,

This week I put up a few posts outside the norm for my blog and I’m looking for a bit of feedback on them. The first is a work shopping piece for one of the first poems I wrote on my blog, the second a piece on gender, and the third is the most recent post in a new series of tips for blogging that I’ve picked up over the last seven years.

  4. Hello everybody!

How are you all doing? Hope you all had a great weekend.
Tears are generally considered as a sign of weakness. But what about the people who cannot cry?
My latest blog post ‘Tears’ which is a poem is on the above lines.

      1. Hi Johnny, I was just considering experimenting with different themes and making each category a drop down menu, so they’d all be on the top menu bar, if that makes sense? Also chemistry is one of my favourite subjects, pharmacy student here 🙂

      2. What you’re thinking of would make your blog’s interface somewhat cleaner. I feel like a clean, minimal design (yes, I’m biased towards design minimalism) provides a great contrast as it does a good job of foregrounding the kinds of pictures that fashion/beauty blogs tend to have.

    1. Not that there is anything wrong with how you have it, but if you are considering a face-lift, I think there are some really great feminine themes out there that could enhance your site. Your content is good, I think the current colors just weigh it down a bit. You even have a beautiful icon/title/tag-line and the color blocked style of your current site just doesn’t do it all justice. Good luck, can’t wait to see what you come up with!
