Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello lovely swimmers and Happy Monday!!!

I want to thank each and every last one of you for taking the time each week (each day, for some of you!) for leaving comments and checking out my blog. (Yeah, even you lurkers out there; you’re appreciated, too!)

Basically my blog is a fiction blog (micro-fiction, flash-fiction, short stories, etc.) but it’s a daily posting schedule. My main “inspirations” are British words and phrases, though I’ve got Irish, Australian, and Scottish included.

A few days ago I started a new series on my blog. It is my first challenge to myself to stick with the same story line in a row. I have others that continue every so often. So this new one is a nine part series that begins with the link below:

    https://britwitblog.wordpress.com/2017/08/10/pram/

A Warrior’s Child series is neat because it’s a bit fantasy unlike other mini stories I’ve written and shared thus far. Any and all feedback would be lovely!

    Happy swimming, friends.

I wrote this post a few months ago but it seems so fitting seeing what is happening right now.
I wish nothing bad on any of you, but what I do wish is that you all some how find such an encounter with love that it changes your heart….

I couldn’t work out how to leave a comment on your blog, so I’ll leave it here. Keep being positive and lovely.

  5. Hey everybody! This week I have a collaboration post where I’ve written a flash fiction. Here’s the link to my part
    https://aestheticgraphy.wordpress.com/2017/08/14/the-exordium-1

My blog content is very diverse and doesn’t really fit into a particular criteria like “writing” or “photography”. Its an all in one blog, including haiku’s/weekly motivation/quotes/travel/photography and basically my life on a blog. I hope you enjoy reading!

Do leave links to your blog as I’d like to check it out!

    Have a great week ahead.

  6. Good morning, fellow swimmers… I mean bloggers! I would like to reach out for some help with “tags”. I would like to pick clear, consistent tags that will help my posts reach their audience, but I find myself pulled to my Facebook habit of inserting run-on sentences into my hashtags just because it amuses me. Please feel free to take a look at a few of my recent posts and let me know if you have any tag suggestions. References to relevant articles or blog posts is also much appreciated. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and engage with this comment! Have a lovely blogging day!

    1. Hey there!

I find tagging to be one of the hardest parts of my blogging experience. I want to tag things so that my post gets out there, but I don’t want to mistag and put content in places that it shouldn’t be – or I want to express myself in the tags with sentences like I do on tumblr. I try to avoid doing that here on WordPress, but it is hard!

One thing I would suggest is to put the categorical tags first. I think someone once told me you get 15 tags before wordpress doesn’t count what you tag anymore for searching, only for organization. I might be wrong on that number, but the idea is true. So put tags like “music”, “singing”, “poetry”, “personal”, “current events” or whatever first, and THEN if you still want to, do your run-on tags to your heart’s content!

That’s just my advice. If it appeals to you, go ahead and use it. If not, no harm no foul. =)

    2. Hi! I took a quick peek inside your blog to get a general idea for ideas for tags. I can always take a better look later on for more in-depth suggestions. BUT, I have discovered that one words tend to be the best and safest bet. I don’t think I’ve really uncovered a secret magic trick. For you, perhaps try things like “picture,” “blogging,” or if you participate in the Daily Prompts etc. you could add the tag “postaday” or “postaweek” (I think; not entirely certain if that’s the correct tag for the weekly). I kind of have a few I use daily, but I’m not sure if those are the tags that draw readers in.

Another way to pull in your audience is through the community pool and First Friday by checking out other people’s blogs. I do understand the issue of using too long hashtags. 🙂 Just keep in mind that on WP, the start filtering out posts that use more than fifteen combined categories and tags, just in case you did not know.

I like your blog layout, too. It appears like you’ve got a great variety of content. I hope this helps, even a little bit. Happy blogging!

      1. I quite like the funny sentence like tags… it’s just that they are less helpful for getting people to actually find you.

    1. Maybe I missed it, but how much does it cost and what do you get for it? Is it a monthly service of do you just fill a shopping cart uo with the meals you want? I could follow the links and find out, but I probably won’t, so sell the service first if you’re trying to make $ from it.

  7. Hey there everyone,
I am bloggin for a couple of months now and have problems finding an ‘audience’. I started out with writing mostly about societal problems from the view of a gay man. Now I am mostly writing about what is on my mind, whether it is LGBT themed or not. Maybe someone has some feedback for me? I’d be really glad 🙂
    Thanks! Ben

    1. I don’t know, are you subscribed to blogs that are similar? I have a blog on 3d art, and I get very few views, but then again I haven’t found that many blogs yet on it, so I think it’s about finding the community.
I will take a look at your blog 🙂

    2. Coming here to the community pool is a great way to start. I don’t have much of an “audience” myself, but I am slowly building it by commenting on posts in the pool and posting my own posts there. Other than that, tag efficiently, and comment on other people’s stuff, asking them to comment on yours! You can meet some great people that way.

    3. I don’t have a massive following either (so take my ideas with a grain of salt!) It depends what you are interested in. I’d rather have engaged readers that comment/chat than loooads of page views but little engagement.

      – Have you tried joining some facebook blogging groups? I found a couple that have been really supportive. They share each others posts and comment etc.

      – Have you tried commenting and being engaged with other blogs that you like? The more that you comment and make real friendships, the more people will return the favour.

      – Having said that…I wouldn’t be pushy and expect people to comment just because you commented on theirs. Just be engaged with the content that you are interested in. 🙂

      – It might take some time, but you’ll find your tribe.

      1. Hey thanks for the great feedback! I will definitely check back here more often and look for Facebook groups.
I am reading and commenting on blogs that I am interested in, however I haven’t found a lot of ‘LGBT’ themed blogs yet. I don’t want to be too pushy and always ask people to check back on my blog and comment… I usually only do that if I have an article covering the same topic as them online.
I guess it mostly takes patience 🙂

      2. I’m the same with walking blogs! It takes a while to find the folks with the same interests.

BUT keep looking at totally unrelated blogs too. I have found i end up reading things in other niches even more than folks with the same kind of posts as me.

    1. I wish I had advice for you, but I do not. As someone who loves to read fantasy, I totally understand how hard it can be to create original stuff that’s good. I mean, Christopher Paolini came up with like five whole languages, and I’m sure Tolkien did even more.
I guess the only tip is if you have any original idea, no matter how small, run with it. Use that as a building block.

      1. Absolutely. I plan to continue writing the book, it’s just that I’m realizing it’s going to take a lot longer than I expected. There are a lot of details and things that you can’t take for granted when writing fantasy.

  9. Thanks this is a nice thing to offer, I am just starting back blogging and have to start again in a lot of ways. https://writeitonmywall.wordpress.com/
But I love that there is this community here. I did the blogging 101 before and it really helped me a lot cause otherwise I would have been clueless. And the writing prompts were nice too.

  10. Hi there,
I have been trying to post at least one post a day since last week. There is some stuff I would like people to read and comment so it would be really helpful if you could peek at my blog which is mostly stories and essays I come up with.
Here is a link to one of my stories:

    Love is.

Thank you for helping an aspiring blogger/writer out:)
