First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Welcome 🙂

One small tip: I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    1. Hello and welcome to the blogging community! I hope you’ll enjoy this grand, new adventure!! 😃 Before I read your post, I wanted to let you know that you still have filler information under your Menu button. If you’d like to have an about me page as well as a contact page, perhaps fill that out? Otherwise, so far your layout looks very nice! Usually dark colors are straining, but I didn’t think that was the case for yours! I wish you all the best. Cheers! 💫

    2. Hi again!! I wanted to let you know I finished reading your first post and wanted to say that’s an excellent first topic choice. Thank you for having the courage to share your personal experiences and give the world the encouragement to disregard society’s preconceived notion of beauty. Happy blogging! 🙂💫

    1. Hello and welcome to the blogging community!! 😄 I hope you’ll enjoy and have a blast with your new blog! Congratulations on almost having a one year old! I know birthdays are generally celebrated for the little dude, but since he’s so young I’ll send the wishes to his mama!
If you wouldn’t mind, I’m going to leave some suggestions for you on the blog? Your layout looks awesome! It appears personalized to you and that’s great for drawing in your audience and allowing them to get to know you a bit better. 🙂 But I noticed that your Menu button at the top still had filler text included. If you’d like, you can fill that information out and leave the widget there or you can get rid of it. Whatever suits your needs! One last thing, on WordPress, there’s a limit on tags. Generally the rule is 15 and anything after that the site filters them as spam. I hope this has been helpful for you. Also, don’t feel shy to ask more questions! I still feel like I’m learning new things about my blog two months in… 😄 I wish you all the best! 💫

  2. Maui – Best Food on the Valley Isle

I’m new to WordPress and just started a blog last week. It’s basically a food and travel blog – because I have lots of friends who email to say they are visiting a place I have been and ask me where they should eat. My theme is very simple right now, and I have finished my first post. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!!!

    1. A note as you get started — you’ve used a lot of tags on your post. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this too many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, rather than easier. You’re fine right now — just at 15 — but it’s something to be mindful of.

      Welcome!

  3. Hi! My name is Pat and I am brand new to blogging. I’m so happy to be here!

My blog has been ‘in percolation’ for a few years now, but I’m just now taking the plunge. I envision it as a place where my readers and I can explore those things which are central to who we are – those things which influence us to choose our own personal ‘road less traveled’. And so much more!

    1. Hello! Welcome to the world of blogging!! 🙂 I sincerely loved the weaving of music and writing in your first post. I think I liked it more than my own enjoyment of the two; you have a good writing style and openness for your audience. Cheers to your future posts!! 💫

      1. Thanks so much for the feedback! I’ve already followed you to your blog as well (love the Brit word nerd focus) – and left a comment there. So happy to connect with you! 🙂

Looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that by going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

    1. Love your free spirit! I totally felt that from your posts. Also, something I observed, I don’t know if it’s just my computer or not but where you are supposed to have a Google ad, it just displays a link. Could be my computer, but I thought i’d tell you just in case something’s wrong with the link
