Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. I have been blogging for just over 2 years. I have a main blog where I spend most of my time and effort, but this past 4 months I started a 2nd blog as a Christian blog. It is more for my church congregation so I have never promoted it before. I am a lay pastor and the posts are previews of the Sunday messages.

Here is the latest post. Please let me know what you think! 🙂

      1. hmmm, thanks Sydney. I never really shot for an intended tone. Friends tell me that I write the way I speak…hmmm…interesting. Only question I have for you is, did it make you laugh at all?

    1. Afer a quick glance. 🙂 Maybe personalize the home page (or switch off the ‘static front page’. The first page I saw was still very generic (with ‘This is a Text Widget’ texts) and I had to search for your blog section.

    1. First post’s got good material, it looks like this blog is going to be personal. Now for the look – you should spend an afternoon in the Customizer trying to figure out how your blog works, what things you can add or remove, and so on. For example, you’ve got ‘Text Widgets’ that still have WP’s default text. Also, the ‘About’ page. Why is it ‘Confessions of Kiara’? This would be a good place to explain it, for the reader to get to know you and why you’re blogging the things you’re blogging, and so on.

A lot of this might get tedious, but think of first-time blog customizing like you’ve moving to a new apartment or house – it’s your place, why not make it feel more like home?

    2. Hey Kiara, you’ve read my comments and responded to them so I’ll just leave a quick little blog review here 😉

Site looks clean and that’s always good. About page NEEDS TO BE DONE quick! Reason: It’s usually the first stop new visitors go to. Ppl want to know more about you, your blog and what you’re all about.

Archives section can be added as well to help readers in future help check out your older contents with ease.

Aside from that, your writings so far is pretty good. You can consider using images to help illustrate your posts. It might help engage your readers a little more.

Alright hope this helped bud. Let me know if you got questions!

    1. Really like your blog 🙂 it could be good to add the ‘read more’ or ‘continue reading’ options to your post when you write them, that will break them up 🙂

    1. These are great! You might consider adding an about page so your readers can get a better idea of who you are. It’s the first thing I usually click when I explore a blog, but maybe thats just me. Anyway, great posts 😀

    1. Watch your grammar. After any punctuation, you must put a space before starting the next sentence. Also, that curly font you have in your sidebar isn’t the easiest to read.
