Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Hey there, I just checked out your blog. You seem to be off to a great start. As I’m sure you know, the main thing to do right now is get more content on your blog, but don’t overwhelm yourself; it will build up gradually. Some thing to think about would be; if your are exclusively going to blog on the NBA, or basketball in general, or a few sports, or anything sports related; will your posts be about sports news, talking about people or teams in sports, or other things, etc. Keep on writing, and be open to learn new things as you go. 1. Hi everyone! I’m a high-school student who will be spending her senior year in Rabat, Morocco with a scholarship from the State Department, and I plan to blog about my experiences there.

I haven’t managed a public blog before, but I’ve just started one at http://www.fromraleightorabat.wordpress.com. I’ve had some trouble with the customization and layout, being a person who has absolutely no eye for design, haha. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

    1. It’s a very good blog, especially helpful to students. I like that you have given links to other study-abroad blogs as well. According to me, if your posts are running too long, you should consider them breaking into parts (1, 2, so forth)…

      1. Thank you 🙂 I find there’s no point trying as I would only be lying to myself and hopefully I will show an improvement over the next few weeks! Thank you for your comment, I’ll check out your blog too 🙂

    1. I think it was well-written. The tone was perfect for the topic; your words were honest, but also very inviting.

    1. Although I myself am looking for ways to improve my blog and hope for some critical advise, I have to say; awesome blog, the goal is inspirational and without a doubt you succeeded in bringing the message in this post. It is well-written, honest and fun to read. Keep on writing XD

    1. I empathize with your dilemma. If you allow it to do so, being serious will sap all the fun out of writing. I have done some ghost-writing for people. The advantage was that I didn’t have to worry about the publishing, marketing, and graphics. All I had to do was write. Still, it’s more fun to write for myself. https://gracelead.co

    1. Your words are lovely and the way you turn a phrase is somewhat intoxicating. You had me from the first line, ” running invisible fingertips over the smooth and somewhat bumpy terrain of my heart”.

  4. Your post provides a sensible way to do a book review. A little editing would make it better. Here are three examples from the opening paragraph: (1) “disliked.” should be “disliked it.” (2) “if you wanted” should be “if you want” (3) “were your first impression” should be “were your first impressions” https://gracelead.co

      1. I’m not sure how it got in as its own comment. It was a response to someone with a post about how to do a good book review. I don’t see it in the stream now.

  5. Hi everyone! I started blogging just about 2 weeks back and I am not very confident about my posts just yet. I would really appreciate if I can get feedback on my posts. My posts are mostly inspirational and completely based on my own experiences and my exact thoughts. Here are a couple of my posts. Hope to get your comments/feedback ..

  6. Hey everyone! I had a question about the layout of my blog. Right now, my home page gives an overview of my blog, and my posts go on a separate page called “Articles.” I was thinking about changing it, so that all my blog posts go on the home page, and then the overview would go on a separate “About” page. Any thoughts? Thanks! Here’s the link: https://senshomines.wordpress.com

    1. Hi there, I’ve been messing around with this layout stuff for a while so I’ve learned a few things. If you click customize and click on the “front page” tab, you can select the option of having your latest posts show up on the home page I think. Alternatively, you could always edit your menu when you click “wp admin” and simply edit the homepage link so that your “articles” page becomes your home, and your “home” become “about” or what ever you choose to call it. You can also edit the menu items’ names if you wish to (eg. rename “articles” to “blog”). I hope that helps 🙂 I’m still figuring things out myself.

      1. It looks grand! It has that professional look but at the same time has a welcoming feel, which is great. Your ‘messing around with this layout stuff’ seems to have payed off wonderfully.

  7. hey team

This week i tried something a little different by writing a spoken word/poem type piece relating to white people and comments on the whole race conversation:

Would love some feedback on the style and message…

    1. Loved it! I haven’t had too much experience with spoken word so I’m not sure if I’m the best person to offer constructive criticism on that front, but the message was great and important, especially now

  9. Happy Monday Folks! I’d love to make new friends, and find new blogs and perspectives to read. I think I enjoy WordPress for the reading almost more than I do the writing! I’m going to be meandering along the comments finding new blogs to follow – but by all means check out my latest post and/or blog in general – If you have any tips or feedback on what I could do better – tell me :)… OR if you’d like to join me in Awkward Babbling, I’d be thrilled if you wanted to follow too!

  10. Hello hello! I’m feeling like I have a good rythym with my posts, but my traffic has leveled off/dropped slightly, and I have little to no interaction. Does anyone have any suggestions or feedback to bring it back to life? Thank you in advance!

    1. You’ve got all the basics — good grammar, well-organized paragraphs, images, tags/categories, etc. Great start! 🙂 You can always promote your blog to your friends (nicely, and not too often!). Community Pool is a good way to find readers, too. Interact with other bloggers whose writing you like, and create a relationship with them. And post regularly: if your posts are infrequent, readers may stop returning.
