Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Did you just start blogging and you’re not sure how to get going? Has your blog been dormant for a while but you’d like to give it a jolt of life? Join our free Blogging 101 course (or any of our other offerings at Blogging U.).

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Very cute! I am a mother of four, ages 21, 16, 12, and 10 so its fun to read about new moms, babies and look back on all of the funny things that happened to my husband and I. Cute blog:)

      1. Hahaha, four boy at that! You’ll be fine. We all have a “plan” of how we are going to parent and sometimes we follow part of that plan, but in the end, you do what you gotta do and all of our kids, with love and lots of grace, end up just fine:) Enjoy the journey; it goes fast

    1. Hi Jules I really like your writing style. Have you done an ‘About’ page just to give the reader some background on who you are and your blog? I couldn’t find one. This might be worth doing. I really like what you have to say. There are quite a few posts I want to read properly and I’m interested in your future posts so I’m a new follower. Keep it up from https://cultivatingtime.wordpress.com

    1. I’m a huge advocate of flash fiction, and I certainly enjoyed reading yours! I particularly enjoyed the description of the dry mud and poisoned leaves. I suggest adding more such visual/physical/tactical descriptions in the beginning, and perhaps less of the inner monologue.

  1. Hey guys, just a little hello-I’m-here, I’ve just started up at http://www.dearkhale.com and I’d love to build a little bit of a presence and hear your thoughts – I’m posting a piece of writing through a series of letters, and I do have a couple other pieces up there too, if you make it that far in 😉
Since I’m still squeaky-clean-new I’d love to find some new reading material – drop by if you like, whether we post similar writing or not.

    Love always

  2. Hello!
Keelin here. I’ve been blogging for about 6 months, and I’m looking for some feedback. For November I’ve decided to post every day (which I’ve creatively called Post-vember). My most recent post explains my thinking on the attacks in France. Hopefully you find it interesting!

Also I’ve been struggling to get comments and views lately. Can you think think of anything that could be stopping readers from commenting?

    Thanks so much!

    1. It’s easy for people to click a LIKE button, but it takes more effort to leave a comment. Most of us, I think, get very few comments. Just keep going.

    2. Hi,
I liked your blog. I read through a few of your posts and found them very interesting. Especially the Disney one haha. I personally really liked the movie Brave. Great post 🙂
I’m not sure why people don’t but I think getting comments and views is something many of us struggle with. But I encourage you to not give up and not let it discourage you. Keep posting and keep writing!

    3. Hi Keelin – I love your Brave post. I’ve left some comments for you. Maybe one way to increase comments is to connect more with other Bloggers, visit other blogs, make genuine comments. It’s a way of building relationships with Bloggers. From https://cultivatingtime.wordpress.com

  3. Hello everyone! I’ve recently begun what I like to call a hodge podge blog. Unlike a fashion blog or baking blog or gaming blog, mine is an assorted reflection of my eclectic personality (super girly and super geeky). It’s just getting off the ground, but I intend it to be an equal mix of geek/pop culture posts (mostly console game reviews), fashion, and baking. I am doing it for fun and to have a creative outlet, not to have a super popular sleek and shiny powerhouse blog, but I’d still definitely appreciate any words of advice from other bloggers whose blogs are multi-focused.

Thank you for checking it out!

    1. Hello mate, Here are the quick suggestions for your blog:
      1) Justify the blog’s content in order to make it look more symmetrical.
      2) Add few more menus for easy access of the genre of your writings.
      3) Try a colorful background or picture in the backdrop in order to make it look more appealing.
      4) You may use few more widgets for a dapper look.

      Thanks.

  5. What’s up people! I’m just completing my first week of this thing called blogging. While I’ve gained enough followers to keep me going, this is meant to be shared with ALL. So I’m figuring out all the gadgets to reach the masses all at one. More than my imagination, but for now, that’ll have to do. This has been long thought out, so should you come check it out, feel free to be brutally honest. Even if I’m not your cup of tea, there’s always a chance we’ll cross paths.#NOTHINGMatters http://weknownothing2015.wordpress.com

It is about a small boy called Victor who has a genius intellect, but struggles with fitting in.

I’ll be extremely grateful for any feedback provided.
Please feel free to read any of my other stories on my blog and give me your opinion on them too. Let me know if I can improve my narrative skills, and if you have any tips or observations regarding writing short stories I’ll be happy to read them too.

    1. The only way to include your own text at your site’s footer would be by switching to a theme that has widget areas in the footer — many of our more recent, minimalist themes are like that.

Otherwise, a copyright notice in the sidebar, as Alex suggested above, is the way to go.

      1. Can you switch themes without changing your content? I’ve included it in the sidebar for now and realised that on an android it comes up at the bottom of the page anyway. Thanks!

  10. So sorry I wasn’t clear on my previous comment. My blog turned 3 years. I changed my theme to the “Button” theme and will appreciate honest comments on how I can make it better, user and viewer friendly.
Then also content, I wasn’t very consistent the past two years, but I have done way better this year. So I would appreciate any sort of advice or critic. Thanks.
