Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Hi,
I really enjoyed your blog. Your visuals really bring depth into your posts and the contents itself is very captivating. Your About page is also very descriptive which is always a plus. I think you’re doing great 🙂 Keep it up!

  1. Hi all!
I just created my first blog. I intend for it to be a space where anyone and everyone can come to discuss real issues in a respectful and constructive manner. If anyone has tips, or an issue they feel is important, I would love to hear about them/it!

Check out my blog, let me know what you guys think!

Excited to be part of this community 🙂

    1. I like the ideas you have initially, especially the one about political correctness. I love the title of your blog, just wondering if you might find a color scheme that is a little more pleasing to the eye. I’ll be honest, I’ve come upon some decent blogs in the past where the font was black and it was hard to read, so I just stopped following. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the different backgrounds until you find one you like at first. Also, I like short posts, but usually 4-5 paragraphs letting us know how you feel is usually a good rule of thumb I’ve found for a sweet spot. And get on Reader and find some other great blogs and start following/commenting/liking others and you will see them start coming to your blog for a visit!

      1. Hi Brother
Great to see that you have made your first post.
Before making the next post I suggest you to fill an important part of your blog that is the About page.
Every reader comes and visits the about page first to check whats the blog all about and know the author…

        So work on that
I hope my suggestion would help you

      2. Oh your post. I read it , actually i was not aware about the NO BRA DAY so it was quite knowledgeable for me and other thing is that i was shocked by such kind behaviour of the people like making a positive initiative into a sexual show where girls are clicking selfies and showing their assets ….. Its quite reprehensible..

Your blog is beautiful! I always love looking at food blogs just because I’m such a foodie haha. Your pictures really bring more depth into your posts and the contents itself are great! I also enjoyed reading your About page because I was able to connect with work a bit more personally. Thanks for sharing your blog with us 🙂 I think you’re doing great. Keep it up!

    2. Heya, I love the theme of your blog! It’s really bright and lets you show off those amazing photos.
What do you think is not set up correctly? I’m new to blogging so actually that question is also for me to figure out if I did the same! 😛

      1. Hi Doc, what I thought was not set up correctly was the agreement I made with another blogger when I guest blog for her. We did not set up number of posts or how they would be shared before we started and now we have different ideas of how it should go.

  4. I just extended my blog by creating a presence on Facebook. For those of you who have a Facebook page that correlates to your blog: how do you drive traffic back and forth? What strategies have you found most work most consistently? What things have you found do not work?

    1. Hi,
I loved it! I was really able to relate to your About page and your first post. I also tend to question many things and some of those questions you came up with were questions I have also asked. The “what if” game is always a fun game to play 🙂 I’m going to give you a follow because I find your train of thought stimulating and intriguing. I’d love it if you also checked out my blog as well! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more posts from you. Perhaps, we can engage in such philosophical discussions together 🙂 Cheers!

The theme and your writing style is really good, I look forward to seeing what you come up with 🙂

    1. Hello!
I enjoyed your visuals. They bring depth into your posts and enhance your content. I think so far, you’re doing well! As for the About page, you could possibly include your background, why you blog, the theme behind your blog, etc. Whatever gives readers a better understanding and a better connection to you 🙂 I wish you the best of luck!

    1. I think in general (although I’m new too so maybe I’m wrong!), everything needs to be under creative commons… i.e. whoever made it has declared that it’s free to use on your site.
There are a few subtypes of CC I think, like free to use for non-commercial purposes, able to modify etc. Try to investigate the fine print behind the vids.
Or better yet, contact the person that made it and ask them directly 🙂
      Cheers!

    1. Hi and congratulations on being published! That’s a massive thing to happen, most of us will never achieve that in our lives so it’s really something to celebrate.
Onto what you’ve posted about… I have to say that when I looked at your site I didn’t see a photo at all. I saw the picture in your post about the water but I’m afraid the rest was blank. I tried opening your blog from your name, gravatar, and link and they were all blank. I used a new tab and also opened everything in a new window as well.Just so you know I’m using Google Chrome as my browser. If someone else says they can’t see anything, try and fix it then come back and post or contact me on my site and I’d be more than happy to take another look.
Best of luck with your writing.

  8. A question for anyone who would like to help. We write about our travels, and have a few recent extended trips to talk about – for each trip, would it be better to write just one long post, or break it up and do a short post about each cool place we went along the way? Which would be easier/nicer to read? Thanks in advance.

    1. Heyo, Alex. For me, I like the shorter stuff better (maybe that’s fault of this tech-driven world!).

I aim to make my writing like that, sort of snippets of info, but still with substance, and a few top photos.

In the end though it’s just what you enjoy writing too! Goodluck 🙂

      1. Sounds good. I’ve only really tried the longer stuff so far, but I’ll give a couple of shorter posts a go and see how they turn out.

        Thanks for the advice!

      1. Good idea, I think I’ve definitely missed out a few stories here and there in the past, trying to fit too much into one post. I’ll try breaking things up and see how that turns out.

    3. Hi,
I thought your blog was nice. The contents are great and I like how you talk about things going on in society. I think it’d help if possibly you could further develop your About page. Just so that viewers can better understand your blog. Also, this is just a suggestion, but maybe if you add pictures or visuals it can bring more depth into your content. These are just suggestions though 🙂 It would be awesome if you could also give me some feedback on my blog! Anything is welcome 🙂 Cheers!

      1. Hey John,
Thanks for the comments! It’s awesome getting another perspective. I was a bit lost when it came to writing my About page and had actually forgotten it existed since, so thank you for the reminder! The pictures idea is also awesome, definitely planning on stepping up my game there 🙂 I’ve just headed over to your blog and wow – the layout, the photos, the way you write… it’s honestly quite beautiful. I love it, and I’m not just saying that! 🙂

  10. Hi all – I’m looking for general feedback on my blog in terms of content (I am quite happy with the layout for now), although I was kinda happy with the content too but it doesn’t really get much attention. I’ve tried liking, commenting on others blogs (without being a serial spammer of such methods) etc but still it is lacking in the interaction department, so if you are happy to cast your eye over it and offer some feedback I would be grateful.

I just wonder if the content is hard going or difficult to relate to (or something else).

      1. From what I’ve read so far I like it. I’m very into photography and fiction, so this is much more my kind of thing as opposed to the many ‘lifestyle’ type blogs that proliferate these days. More dark and moody pics / writing is no bad thing.

      1. Hi Mount. I had the theme that your blog is using but the pictures I was using didn’t work so well, yours do however, they are clear and colourful which gives it good impact, although once into a post itself the images start to lose their clarity a little as they are (I guess) zommed in too much, this is an issue with the theme rather than your pictures though.

The font is good and the site is easy to read, for anyone looking for a blog with a religious angle then yours seems to deliver.

    1. Hi Jason. I’ve already followed you, and now that I am home from work I can read through your blog a little more. One thing I noticed as doing this is as your posts are quite long on the home back, that after clicking into a post to read, when you go back to the home page it can be quite a long scroll towards the bottom to get to the next post.

      1. Thanks for the follow and your interest!

Re the home page, that’s just how WordPress does it, as far as I know. Perhaps easier to use the links on the right hand side to navigate to the posts you’d like to read.

    1. Hey,
I dont think you can change the site address. You can definitely change the name of your blog in settings but you cant change the URL.
There is, however, one option, you can start a new blog with the name of your choice and post everything from your existing blog over there.
