Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging conversation.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. As a welshman I really enjoyed the photo’s from Wales post, some very nice shot’s specifically the longer exposure glassy flowing water one’s. One thing I would suggest, and it is merely a suggestion, is perhaps telling the reader what equipment you used for your photo’s and perhaps some small amount of exif data? Sharing with your readers how you made a photograph is always nice since they can go out and try the same techniques themselves.

      1. Thanks for your feedback, helping others learn to take good photos is something which I aim to do in the future but at the moment I don’t feel too qualified myself to give advice to others. Thanks though ! 🙂

    1. You’re a great critic! Unbiased reporting and thoroughly done. I will say that it’s interesting you guys chose a black background. Perhaps that’s an artsy thing I am not clued into lol. But in my blogging tutorials I’ve read that it’s best to keep the background white because most readers find it more easy to read. Just a suggestion! But you’re doing great. Please check out my blog if you guys have the chance :).

    1. Nice, concise description of each book with a good quality image, I liked it. The poll is also a nice for encouraging readers to engage……I love the cover of that copy of Animal Farm by the way, mine is an ancient copy and nowhere near as bold and “Soviet Realism” as that one.

    1. I am so proud of you and your decision. It takes a lot of inner strength and fortitude to quit a job you’ve been at for awhile but you’re doing the right thing! No job is worth your health :). I wish the best of luck to you! Feel free to visit my blog as well. I would love some feedback!

  6. I wrote a little creative nonfiction piece today about a present from my boyfriend…

    Grumpuss.

I’d appreciate any feedback on the photo, whether the story made you smile, and if it’s a good feature for my blog to continue writing such ramblings!

Will happily revisit anyone that is lovely enough to comment. 😀

  7. I’d really love some feedback on my blog! Here is a link to one of my latest posts: http://slyspeaks.com/2015/03/13/match-your-intentions-to-your-actions/ I started blogging again in January after a year hiatus, so I’m trying to get back into the groove of writing but sometimes I feel that I am rambling too much. I also feel like something is missing from the design of my blog, but I can’t put my finger on it. I have a custom header but I feel like there is too much white space. Any constructive criticism is welcomed!

    1. I think you should change your background color to take away some of that white space. It is in the customize section.

      1. Thank you! I agree. I love blogs with lots of pictures but the topics I talk about don’t really need pictures lol. I think when I do my travel posts I will add a lot of pictures of my journeys.

  8. Hi everyone, I generally post film photography that I have taken but recently posted about a particular camera rather than my usual posts about photographs themselves. I’ve had some nice feedback from some of my regular readers but I’d be interested to hear the views of some fresh eyes so to speak.

    1. Schweet. i love the opening quote paragraph and how that blends well into the story. definitely a few lines that could be edited to make it run more smoothly [and i would lose a few of those ?’s] so i’d read it again and edit a little more but on the whole it really captures what you are trying to say in a really beautiful way.

      Thanks for sharing

    1. Took me right back to Sedona (we went last fall). Great photos! I sometimes find myself running out of steam when the combo of pics/text results in long posts. I certainly wouldn’t want you to cut the length, but have you considered doing multiple blogs to capture the details of one trip?

  9. Hi everyone!
About a month ago I started my very first blog detailing my everyday struggles with multiple chronic illnesses along with my abusive childhood. I wanted to start a blog to tell my story but also to start a community for people to come and share their own stories.

I wanted to dedicated my blog to building a community of warriors and shining a light on others stories. From long memoirs to short retellings to photographs meant to inspire.

Since I am so new at this whole blogging world I was wondering if I could have some feedback on the site as a whole. I’m not sure if it is going in the right direction and would love some other bloggers input.

For those who have a specific audience in mind (for me people who suffer with chronic illnesses, specifically fibromyalgia) how can you better attract that audience?
