Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

      1. Aaron,

I stopped because I was drowning myself in learning the ropes of my occupation. I’m in sales, so not only do I need to know my product like the back of my hand, but I also have to know how to sell. I was too exhausted at the end of the day.

Let me tell you, though, that I am equally as busy now, and blogging helps me stay grounded when i could let my thoughts be in a million different places. It was a mistake to stop blogging, thinking that the time spent not blogging would help me concentrate when it did the opposite.

  1. Hi Everyone,

I’m entirely new to blogging and utterly grateful to the Blogging 101 course to help me get get into the swing of things. I’m not 100% sold yet on my theme. I wanted a look that felt like writing letters and for now I’m using Elegant Grunge. I’m just concerned the color palette wouldn’t sit well with readers. Maybe too dreary?

Any feedback you’d like to share with me is appreciated.

    1. The theme is fine, the writing, as letters, is a unique, fun style. The only issue I could find, & it’s tiny, is the wall of text that is the first paragraph. There were opportunities to break that up.

    2. I really like the theme you are using… it’s such a contrast to my own (bright blues/purples/aquas) but that is the beauty of blogging! I find it calm and easy on the eye, not at all dreary. If you love it, I’d say stick with it!!

      1. I really enjoy the idea behind your blog. It is a very unique approach and the sentiment is great. I think the theme you chose was fine for the letter format that you are using. However, I find that I will play around with themes from time to time as I get bored with the one I am using. I suggest playing around with the themes since you can preview before you commit and find one that makes you happy if you are still questioning your choice.

    1. I really like both your post and your concept! It is easy to get caught up in the “other stuff” – likes, stats, etc – but at the end of the day, what matters is what we think of ourselves and our blogs. I also really like your tagline “my blog that used to be on Fridays”.

  2. I’m looking for Feedback on a landing page I have built for the company I work for. http://www.virtualacne.com as well as our blog which there is a link to. I’d like to know how the usability is from another persons perspective is instead of just our own. The first page you land on is the landing page and then when you start to click the links you are redirected to the main site. I want to know how people feel in regards to usability of the website as well as the mobile app. While you do have to be a Washington or California state resident to use the service I would also love to know what people think of the concept.

    1. I like this. Very true to the original blog concept Web Log. Posts that offer insight into the author are my favorite, so I really enjoyed this. The style was ready reading too Followed.

    2. Awesome, I like your layout and content. I know how hard it can be to write about mental health, but if you chose to write about any of those things you will find a very supportive community. I like your 30 day challenge. its good to help people get to know you 🙂

  3. Hi- just put up a post, and a lot of my readers come via Facebook. Unfortunately I could not click on the photo I wanted to come up, and the poorer one is on- which is not likely to attract readers (it fits with the story, otherwise I wouldn’t have used it). Anyone know how I can choose my photo? It used to give me the choice automatically. BTW- would also love feedback on layout/ theme- considering a change this year.

    1. Unfortunately, when Facebook publishes your post automatically via Publicize, it doesn’t let you choose the image that will be displayed. If there’s a post where this is crucial for you, your best bet will be to uncheck the Facebook box in the Publicize module, and manually publish it on Facebook, selecting the image you want.

  4. Hey community,
I’ve been writing poetry every day since the turn of the year in an attempt to reinvigorate my blog and my writing, I was wondering if any other poets would mind just dropping by and having a read, whilst I can’t guarantee that it will be ‘worth the time’ I have had some fairly positive feedback from people around me. I hope you can find something thought provoking and interesting in what I’ve written and if not, please let me know what you feel is lacking 🙂
    Thanks in advance!

    1. I think that your topics are very interesting! As far as layout maybe you could group your topics? To the right of the page for example so all of the titles are viewed at once for ease of reading?
      Best wishes!

    2. I’m a music junkie (my favorite band is Paramore) and your blog name is so cute! I personally feel like the theme is hard to follow though and that’s the only “issue” I see.

    1. I think you are off to a great start. You write from the heart, and that is what truly matters. You have embraced this journey we call life, and you are open to finding happiness. That is more success than any money can ever bring. Best of luck to you!
