The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.
Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?
Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).
To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:
TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
- While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
- The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
- If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
- We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
- Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
- If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
- No running on the deck.

I enjoyed your most recent post. I don’t know if you’ve heard about Pastor Saeed Abedini, but he’s an American pastor imprisoned in Iran. Last Thanksgiving his wife asked those who were willing to set a place for Saeed on Thanksgiving (or perhaps it was Christmas….), as a way of remembering him. Makes you thankful that you’re with family and/or friends when so many others don’t get to be with loved ones. I would encourage you to learn more about Saeed’s plight, as he has a wife and two children who miss him dearly.

I visited your blog, and I really like your statement at the top: “Everyday lived is a special occasion.” And I completely agree. It’s a privilege to wake up every day. I don’t know if you’ve heard of the band Group 1 Crew, but they have a song called “Every Day is a Miracle” and some of the lyrics are, “Every second, a gift from heaven.” Every moment we’re given on earth is a gift from God. Makes me want to live every moment living for God, and being conscious of just how I spend my precious time.

You seem like a very nice person. But I don’t think you care what people think of you. Your blog is really about somebody much bigger. He’s in the spotlight.
Contrary to adding more to your about page, the simplicity works for me. If you’re blogging anonymously (as I am) and feel that helps with speaking the truth and writing freely, so be it. If sharing who you are helps expand your audience, do that. But I suspect many at church already know who you are, and writing to them would be preaching to the converted. The layer of mystery doesn’t take away from your writing to those who don’t know you.

For the record, Christianity isn’t a religion. “Religion” is people trying to make their way to God through their own works (which is impossible). Christianity is God coming to people to save them from their sins.
Questions? Let me know. 🙂
Oh, and I like your blog’s theme! What’s the name of it?

I have many questions. But will probably ask them on your blog instead of here 🙂
With regards to whether Christianity is a ‘religion’, if we’re speaking from an academic or everyday perspective, then yes, Christianity would be a religion, classified alongside Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Sikhism, etc.
Though I think you speak from a personal context, and in particular the context of grace: that works alone will not bring people to God. It is by grace that people are saved. Which is accurate according to the bible, and in line with the Protestant perspective.
When we write or speak about religion, it is accurate to describe Christianity as one.
I’m glad you like it! It’s the itheme2, I believe inspired by the Apple interface.

Gotcha. “Christianity” is deemed a religion, and I understand why, but it isn’t, for the reason I pointed out above. But I understand what you meant. 🙂 It is regarded as a religion, along with Islam, Buddhism, etc.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review my blog, and to even compare my first post to my most recent. 🙂
My theme is Big Brother, in case you want to use it.
Thank you. Pastor Behnam, Saeed, Matt, and deacon Rabbani are all imprisoned for their faith. None are my pastors, in regards to pastoring my church, but I know they covet your prayers.
In regards to your most recent post, we are justified through faith, and not by works. Jesus came to save the world. Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” You see, we can’t be saved through our works. If we were justified through our works, we wouldn’t need Jesus’ sacrifice. And if it was works that saved us, who determines how many good works must be done to achieve justification?
God sent Jesus to die to save us from our sins. Romans 5:1 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith…” It is by faith in Jesus’ sacrifice that we have life and are justified. Romans 5:9 “Since we have now been justified by His (Jesus’) blood…” Not by works.
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” God hates pride. Even if we could make up for all of our sins by doing good works, 1) why would we need God? and 2) we’d become proud, for we would’ve saved ourselves. Does that make sense?
Questions? You can comment on any of my posts and we can talk. 🙂

I’ve got to say that I very much enjoy the comparison between the pace at which your project is developing and geriatric snails. It is definitely a colorful analogy. Something I would improve on, I know you were speaking about the length of the blog and your concern about it and I was wondering if you thought about using more lists. This will no doubt make it appear longer at first glance, but it will also help to create the appearance of more space. I noticed that this is something you do toward the end, but you also give a partial list at the beginning and so I believe this method would also improve your blog’s overall continuity.

Hello Ms. Stacey,
I think it is a good length, easy to read quickly, and conveniently broken up into bullet points. I was thinking maybe you could have given yourself a rating for each point (you said you gave yourself a gold star–why not make that a graphic) so that it would be even easier to glance through. Just a thought from a dog, so feel free to ignore it.
Also, my People told me that starchy messes like bread dough are best cleaned up with cold water, not hot water. The hot water will just make it stickier. Let it soak in cold water first, then scrub it away. Once all the dough bits are gone, you can then finish with hot water.

And thanks for the rating suggestion. I actually thought about it, but I would have gotten a failing grade on everything else–except the dog walking. I think I’d get a half star from Princess Kali on that one.

I love the colour drawn profiles. And the blog title and URL. You’ve got a great blog.
I’d put the search box higher up on the page. It’s a bit out of place in the middle of the blog.
Since you have two columns of widgets, perhaps move some to the left column? Currently there’s only one email follow widget while the rest is clumped to the right widget column. Consider adding a non-email follow button.
Awesome content.
Check out mine too – though it’s much more amateur and I don’t have cool cartoons!

I’m trying a new thing, adding micro-stories (250 words or less) to my cartoon posts.
http://bbigmus.wordpress.com
I’m undecided about whether to post them with the cartoons, like I did with this one, or separately—or if I should even be inflicting them on an unsuspecting public in the first place. I’d love it if some of you could have a look and let me know if you think the idea works—or not.

So, I took a look at your blog and I’ve noticed that you have a flair for the entertaining and for adding humor into the blogosphere. Thank you, there are many of us out here that can use a laugh. As for your question concerning whether or not you should include more micro-stories, I believe that the answer to this is yes. The question then is how best to do this. I believe that you can best do this by alternating between posts with and without micro-stories at least until you can break your audience into the idea. Also, would it be possible for the cartoons and micro-stories to be a little bit more related? I think that this would also help you to reach that position of consistency that you are aiming for.

Look into adding a High Def picture to your header area. A 600×300 should do… or in the your dashboard, you can add a picture and then crop it the way you would like to appear.
Having the right template makes a world of difference for the content you want to pen.
I wish you the best.

Hi Chantel, I like your blog is clear, and your header says straight away what its about. The only part that I would consider changing is the bright red blocks.. I found them a little too bright/intense – I associate red with a warning/stop sign – if that makes sense? x

Hi All:
I’ve actually had my WordPress blog for 4 years now. It’s my best outlet to nerd out by writing movie and video game reviews along with some sports and personal stuff sprinkled in. I’ve been trying to grow my subscribers, readers, and comment threads, but so far haven’t had much luck. My site is also linked with my Twitter and LinkedIn. What more can I do? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Check out my page at glrodriguez.com.

I’ve got to say that from what I’ve read, I very much enjoy your written voice. The only suggestion that I would make so far is that you might consider making the either the background or the text lighter so that the reader can more easily follow what you’ve written.

You’re actually not the first person to say that and I’ve put it off for too long. I’m gonna fiddle with the settings and see what I can do. Please let me know if the adjustments are better or worse as I am colorblind and sometimes find it difficult to properly adjust contrasts.

Wow. What you write is so powerful, and made even more so by the very stark and minimalist layout. Perhaps a splash of a dramatic colour, such as red, might go well with it? Overall, gorgeous and well done.

I asked for feedback previously, but didn’t really get any. I have recently done quite a major overhaul of my blog and need to test it’s performance more than anything. If people could checkout Hallyunoona.com and just let me know if everyhting loads and in a reasonable time as well the browser they use that would be great(If you could also check yo ucan click to chat in the bottom left, I don’t want you to sign in or anything jsut let me know if it expands)
General feedback is also always welcome.

Everything I clicked on seemed to load just fine. I’m a K-drama fan so I found your site fun to go through. It’s clear you put a lot of time and effort into something you love. On your “about” page it mentions a “Team” but I only saw one person listed. Not sure if I just missed it or it wasn’t there.

Hello. Thank you for sharing your blog with us. I took a look and it appears to load relatively well from my current location. I noticed that there’s not a whole lot of text on the page. It might do you well to have a bit of text to separate out the videos from one another. I think you’ll find it helps you to connect better with your audience.

Samantha, I really enjoyed looking through your blog! Your layout is great and your content is very good. I love the way your voice comes through as a young woman, but your writing style and personal insight is still incredibly mature. This combination will allow you to reach across a multi-generational audience I think. I especially loved your post about being an introvert, because I related so well to it! Keep writing!!

While your pictures are beautiful, I found myself unable to look away for a moment and so I almost missed the words on your blog. If I were to recommend anything, I would recommend that you space out the pictures a bit and then I’m sure you’ll find that it does wonders for your connection to readers.

The theme I use focuses on visual presentation but I found it to load kind of slow. I’ve tried using some low res images to help but I’d like to hear some perceptions on http://somnivision.com .
(I find that the blog section still loads the slowest)
Thanks!

What kind of server and platform are you running your site on? I have a similarly focused theme and am quite happy with performance, except maybe loading times of extensive galleries. I’m using a Digital Ocean droplet and find it great to use and manage.

It’s hosted right here on wordpress.com. I’ve read similar things about the theme (Harmonic) so people try to optimize using low res graphics. If the performance is good then I won’t bother to log a support ticket or anything.

Your blog design is great and most importantly memorable. I also really liked your post about if Juneau could talk.
The only element I’d suggest adding would be a dedicated “About Me” page. If you do your introduction within a blog post it tends to get kind of lost over time as your blog grows.
Keep it up!
