Blogging 201 starts next Monday. Are you registered?

Whether you’re finishing Blogging 101 and want to keep working on your blog or you’ve been blogging for a while and want to grow your audience, Blogging 201 can help.

Please note: the content of this edition of Blogging 201: Branding and Growth is the same as the challenge offered earlier this year. If you’re looking for something new to tackle, more Blogging U. courses will roll out this fall and throughout 2015.

If you’ve been taking part in Blogging 101, we’ve reached the end of our journey together. But if you want to keep going — or if you’ve been blogging for a while but need to give your readership a boost —  Blogging 201: Branding and Growth gets going next Monday, October 20.

Two weeks of daily tasks will help you:

  • Define your blog’s brand
  • Understand your blog’s stats
  • Highlight your existing posts
  • Build your audience

There’s no requirement or expectation that you write a post every day; Blogging 201 is made up of non-publishing tasks to help you grow your online presence. Weekends are free time to catch up on tasks, write posts of your own, or step away from your blog.

You’re welcome to join whether or not you participated in Blogging 101 — there are no prerequisites at Blogging U. It’s also open to any blogger, whether you blog on WordPress.com, have a self-hosted WordPress site, or use another service entirely.

Fill out this quick form to register! (Note: there’s no automated response to registering, but you’ll receive a welcome email before the challenge kicks off.)

  1. Ciao,

I just started blogging — it’s about time — and I wanted to ask whether it is wiser to write small precise blog entries, such as my “Friends” post, or longer entries? Or do you think it’s best to switch things up to get maximum followers and readers.

Any and all feedback is much appreciated!

      1. Thank you, I just realized I posted this to the wrong update. But I appreciate getting the feedback from you anyway!
I’m assuming the 500 word challenge is keeping each post under 500?

  2. I can’t wait to get started with this; I love that it starts on Monday, it gives me time to catch up on what I missed with blogging 101 🙂 It is also lovely to see blogs I saw often in blogging 101 that are joining 201

  3. I don’t know the First thing about blogging but I’ve sorta started getting into it because I have to do small reviews pin some of the free products I receive Now I wish I could of caught Blogging 101 Since I sincerely suck at this So I’m debating if skipping to 201 is such a good idea since I’m lost to begin with? huh?

  4. Hi Michelle (and everyone else), I have a question.

I would love to participate in blogging 201 with a brand new blog I’m about to create. I know there are no prerequisites for 201, but would it be better to hold off for 101?

Also, I’m currently on the sign-up page hovering over the “create blog” button. If I add a new blog to my same username, will there be any way for people to connect my two blogs? I want my new one to be 100% anonymous and not in any way linked to my current blog. Tell me this is possible!

Immediate help needed and appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    1. That depends on how comfortable you are with WordPress, and blogging generally. If you feel like you can tackle the kind of stuff we do in 101 on your own, feel free to give 201 a whirl.

In general, your blogs won’t be connected unless you want them to. You’ll always have one primary blog, which is where you username will link when you leave comments; the second blog would only be visible if you decided to add it to your profile. I’d say your certainty that the blogs would never be linked would be in the very high 90s; if you want 100%, you might consider a separate username.

      1. Thank you so much for your quick response. So let’s say I make this new blog with the same username. When I comment on things, or respond to comments on that blog, will it still say fluttertouch? Just like it does for my primary one?

      2. Yes, it will still say Fluttertouch. The nickname displayed for your account is the same across WordPress.com. If you don’t want it to show on the new blog, you’d want a new username (which I believe does requires a new email).

      3. Oh no, I see. So if I just made the blog on the same username (oops) can I delete it and have the same site url for my new blog when I make a whole new account?

      4. Okay I made a new email. How do I transfer the blog address over to that email? I want to delete my current new blog under this username, but will that disable my new blog address from ever being used again? I need to use it from my new email. Help! 😦

  5. I did this course last time round and found it really helpful, not sure how much I would get out of doing it again. Is there likely to be a ‘follow-on’ course from this one do you know?

  6. I didn’t get all of 101. Is there a way for me to redo it? Does anyone have a link I can go to in order to start it over?

  7. I was participating in Blogging 101 when Blogging 201 was also being offered. I was such a newbie back then so I didn’t really care about this course but now, I’m ready and excited. 🙂
