Writing and Blogging 101 start next week!

The next editions of Blogging and Writing 101 kick off on Monday, September 15! Have you registered yet?

Ready to commit to your blogging or writing, but wish you had a little support? Look no further: registration is open for the next rounds of Blogging 101 and Writing 101. Both courses start Monday, September 15:

Note: These are the same challenges we ran earlier in the year, offered again so new bloggers can give them a try. For those looking for something new, more 201-level writing and blogging challenges are coming over the next few months.

Blogging 101: Zero to Hero

I was thinking today that I would have probably already given up on this blogging thing if it hadn’t been for 101!
— The Mostly True Stories of K. Renae P

Blogging 101 is a month of bite-size blogging assignments to help you create a blog you’re excited to publish — and that others are excited to read. Here’s how it works:

  • Assignments focus on publishing posts, customizing your blog, and engaging with the community.
  • We’ll post new assignments here on The Daily Post each weekday at 12AM GMT. Weekends are free time (but we’ll have ideas for those who want to do more).
  • Participants will have a private community site, the Commons, for chatting and seeking feedback. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand to answer questions and offer guidance.

On Day 30, you’ll have six (or more!) published posts and a handful of drafts, a customized theme that reflects your personality, a small but growing audience, a good grasp of blogging etiquette — and a bunch of new online friends.

Writing 101: Build a Blogging Habit

Writing 101 is a write-every-day challenge to help you build a writing habit and push you as a writer. Here’s how it works:

Jeez, Blogging U. When signing up for the 101 Challenge you should have warned me of the gigantic amount of fun I was about to have!
Brain Babies

  • Each assignment has a Prompt and a Twist. Prompts are your topic; twists are exercises that stretch your writing chops. Respond to one or both.
  • We’ll post a new writing assignment here on The Daily Post each weekday at 12AM GMT.
  • Participants will have a private community site, the Commons, for chatting and seeking feedback. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand to answer questions and offer guidance.

You can publish what you write, or just use the assignments as private writing practice. Either way, regular writing and community feedback will hone your voice and keep you motivated.

Registration

Blogging 101 and Writing 101 both kick off on Monday, September 15. (And if you want to do both but are worried about keeping up with two challenges, don’t worry — they’ll both be offered again. We highly recommend one at a time.) Fill out this quick form to register:

Thanks for your interest! Registration is now closed, but both challenges will be back again later this fall.

  1. Can’t believe that WordPress proactively comes out with such great initiatives. That too, free! Really appreciate the support and motivation extended by this team.

  2. Dear WordPress,

Last year, when I joined WordPress, I amazed myself with the stuff I could do.

There is something about WordPress that brings out the best in me. Looking forward to be a part of this 101 Writing!

Thanks for being so innovative, and helping us grow each and every day!

    Excited.

    Love

  3. Hello Bloggers
I’m really looking forward to take part in Blogging 101, I’ve been blogging for a few months now and really enjoying it. However, I’ve been considering changing my blog design – allurinbeauty.com . I was looking to alter the overall layout design and my header. I would really appreciate some feedback on my current design so I know where to start tweaking.

    Many Thanks Bloggers

  4. This is all new to me – I’ve just started up a web site and would be interested to discuss tactics or the way forward with someone who is already doing so or would like to create their own but don’t know how to or are too scared to try on their own. Its so easy when you have someone else to discuss it with.

  5. I can’t seem to figure out how to register for this. None of the links seem to be working. (Maybe that’s a sign that I shouldn’t even attempt this with two screaming children to deal with… putting together a grocery list is a big enough challenge!)

  6. I ❤ wordpress. But I think "Blogging 101" and "Writting 101" must be promoted to be writen in our native language and not only in english. I'm portuguese and I want to write in portuguese, But, this way, I've just a few readers 😦 The same happens with brazilian people, that wants to write in portuguese brazilian. And of course, other languages, such as spanish, french, etc.
It wil be so good if the team finds a way to solve this "issue". Let's make wordpress and blogging 101 – writing 101 a worldwild plataform/way of comunication.
    Regards,
    Paulo

  8. Hai, I am a second language learner in english and I am very interested in writing. However, I have difficulties in my grammar and vocabulary. So I hope this program can help me to improve my writing. Please give me a suggestion, should I choose writing 101 or blogging 101 course? I would appreciate any suggestion from you. Thank you.

    1. It really depends on what you want support with, learning the mechanics of blogging, or practicing your writing. The other participants in Writing 101 can help you with things like grammar and vocabulary, but that’s not really the focus of the course; it’s largely assumed that you have a grasp of the basics.

      1. Cynthia, I don’t believe we know each other. I’ve worked in the healthcare industry. I live in Florida. If your still curious, you can go to my page, sofiawisdomoftheages.com,and clink a link to a YouTube video I recently taped. It’s embedded in the 9/10/2014 post titled, “Well now I’ve done it”. Thanks for asking though.

  10. I would like to register for Blogging 101 but the only link on this page says “Take Our Survey” which takes to an unsecure page that says someone may be trying to take to a fake page and steal my passwords, etc. There is no form to fill out. Can you e-mail me the form please? Thank you.
