The next editions of Blogging and Writing 101 kick off on Monday, September 15! Have you registered yet?
Ready to commit to your blogging or writing, but wish you had a little support? Look no further: registration is open for the next rounds of Blogging 101 and Writing 101. Both courses start Monday, September 15:
Note: These are the same challenges we ran earlier in the year, offered again so new bloggers can give them a try. For those looking for something new, more 201-level writing and blogging challenges are coming over the next few months.
Blogging 101:Â Zero to Hero
I was thinking today that I would have probably already given up on this blogging thing if it hadn’t been for 101!
—Â The Mostly True Stories of K. Renae P
Blogging 101 is a month of bite-size blogging assignments to help you create a blog you’re excited to publish — and that others are excited to read. Here’s how it works:
- Assignments focus on publishing posts, customizing your blog, and engaging with the community.
- We’ll post new assignments here on The Daily Post each weekday at 12AM GMT. Weekends are free time (but we’ll have ideas for those who want to do more).
- Participants will have a private community site, the Commons, for chatting and seeking feedback. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand to answer questions and offer guidance.
On Day 30, you’ll have six (or more!) published posts and a handful of drafts, a customized theme that reflects your personality, a small but growing audience, a good grasp of blogging etiquette — and a bunch of new online friends.
Writing 101: Build a Blogging Habit
Writing 101 is a write-every-day challenge to help you build a writing habit and push you as a writer. Here’s how it works:
Jeez, Blogging U. When signing up for the 101 Challenge you should have warned me of the gigantic amount of fun I was about to have!
— Brain Babies
- Each assignment has a Prompt and a Twist. Prompts are your topic; twists are exercises that stretch your writing chops. Respond to one or both.
- We’ll post a new writing assignment here on The Daily Post each weekday at 12AM GMT.
- Participants will have a private community site, the Commons, for chatting and seeking feedback. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand to answer questions and offer guidance.
You can publish what you write, or just use the assignments as private writing practice. Either way, regular writing and community feedback will hone your voice and keep you motivated.
Registration
Blogging 101 and Writing 101 both kick off on Monday, September 15. (And if you want to do both but are worried about keeping up with two challenges, don’t worry — they’ll both be offered again. We highly recommend one at a time.) Fill out this quick form to register:
Thanks for your interest! Registration is now closed, but both challenges will be back again later this fall.

Great, I registered last time and then was not able to participate when…well…life happened. I look forward to honing my skills with plenty of great company. This kind of support and community building is one of the best parts of being a WP blogger. Thanks

Hi, I registered last week but have received no email or follow up yet. Should I have gotten one already or is that not until it starts?

Not yet đŸ™‚ Look for one at the end of this week.

I signed up for blogging 101 (I thought) and already got an assignment. Is that different from this?
LikeLike
You signed up for an email version of the challenge we’re testing out as something to offer all new bloggers (yay!). The assignments are the same, although the versions we’ll post here have more meat/instructions/inspiration, and the Daily Post-guided version also has a community aspect the emails don’t. You’re more than welcome to join, you’ll just have already completed some of the tasks đŸ™‚

I need help badly but cannot make the timeframe. I hope you offer this again at some point.

Yes, they’ll both happen again. You can also just follow the posts, and participate as you’re able, or work through them on your own time.

I really want to sign up to this, as I have a hard time committing to writing every week. I think this will be a perfect first step in getting me more comfortable. However, I can’t seem to access the survey…any one else with this issue?

I already started a blog but I could use some advice to make it more specific and how to engage readers. And, I also want to create a regular blogging habit. So, what course do you advice me take?

I would give Blogging 101 a try — Writing 101 is really more focused on daily writing practice, and isn’t necessarily blog-specific.

Thanks for writing this. Yes I need the inspiration and the process would be helpful.

I was so excited when I read this and in my haste I registered for the wrong course. Is there any way for me to change courses?

You can fill the form out again. You’ll get welcome emails for both, but you just ignore the one you’re not taking.

I am new to the blogging world and would be interested in one of that courses. But my first language is not english, I am blogging in German. Can I join one of that courses as well?

Courses are open to everyone; while the assignments will all be in English, you can blog in any language you like. You’re definitely not the only non-English bloggers signed on!

While I need both… what sticks out most is that my blog isn’t tagged correctly and my menu does not guide people properly. Would the blogging 101 help me with that?
LikeLike
It does cover both those, and a lot more.
For immediate help with your menu, this post might help! https://wordpress.com/dailypost/2014/05/24/perennial-favorites-custom-menus/

Did you mean 12PM GMT, not 12AM? I looked at a conversion chart and only found 12AM GMT, which converts to 8AM Eastern Time.

12AM GMT is “zero o’clock,” or midnight, which is currently 8PM Eastern Time.

Just jumped into the blogging pool with a whopping 2 posts so far … thinking it’s a better use of my late night time than some other options.
On the cerebral exercise meter it breaks down like this…
Reality TV = 0
Video Games = 2
Blog writing = 5
or at least that’s my theory (and I’m sticking to it!)
All critiques and input are welcome, I am not a Gramematician!
