Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for feedback, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else.

If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment.

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling. If you simply leave a link to your blog, it’s likely to be overlooked.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. HI all, I am new to blogging and would like some feedback on its focus. I think my “About Me” page lets you know what I’m hoping to accomplish…but do my individual posts seem to be all over the place? In my mind they’re all related. Ideas and input appreciated. http://wheremyfeetare.com

    1. I love the blog name by the way, very creative. I think that your posts may be all over the place, but that is how life is and so it makes sense that you think they are all connected. Randomness is not a bad thing when done properly and I thin that is exactly what you are doing. I would encourage you to continue what you are doing and just have fun with your blog 🙂

  2. I am a writer from Johannesburg South Africa who writes poetry and short stories. I haven’t written in a while and so I have told myself to write at least three times a week just so writing becomes second nature. I write about my days sort of like journaling. I would like constructive criticism on my structure and prose and what you as a reader (not a writer) feel when you read my work or what you feel needs improving. Thank you. thirstydyke.com

    1. Hello there. I like the feel of your blog to start off with. One recommendation I would make though would be to create an “About” page. I see that you have an introduction post but most people know where to find the about page if you make that. Otherwise it looks like you are doing fine on your own.

  3. Hey everyone, happy sunday and Father’s day. I’ve never asked for any feedback about my blog but here goes. Here is a post I made a little bit ago about listening to music while you write – it’s one of my most popular posts.

I’m wondering if it’s too long, or if it manages to successfully draw you in and make you want to engage. If you have an answer, or anything else to say, thanks in advance for your help!

  4. Hello everyone I’m back again! Was hoping if anyone could give me feedback on my blog thus far. I have been criticised on how I phrase sentences and you may find some mistakes! But I would be grateful for any comments 🙂

    1. So far, so good! I like the simplicity of the design, and I’m sure as you start posting more you’ll get some more inspiration for new ideas in writing and layout. Especially with your upcoming adventure to China, which sounds amazing! -Michael

    1. I think different bloggers tend to tackle this questions from different angles. Some stay very spontaneous, writing and publishing posts as they come. Others come up with publishing schedules (aka an editorial calendar), which helps them plan ahead. That often involves working on multiple drafts at the same time. A bit of trial and error and some time will help you find the best method for your own pace.

      1. it’s all good. I did the same mistake earlier today – I’m only new as well.
I like it – I think once you’ve posted a bit more on every page – you will have a lot of traffic. It will take time – but it will be awesome

Can I ask for a favour in return – can you check mine out?

    1. I love your blog – for layout however, Maybe your homepage should be your blog and then if people read something/see a sketch that they like, then they can check out your about page and see what you’re like. I’m not sure how others feel – but I personally was not interested in reading about you until I liked what you wrote
      love your creativity/encouragement to volunteer

    1. I think I need to share my theory with you (I only developed this theory after looking at your blog)… the awesomeness of your blog is directly proportional to the amount of purple you successfully use. AKA your blog is amazeballs because I love purple and you have managed to inject enough to be awesome without it being overwhelming. Also, I really need your sidetable 🙂 Followed!

  11. Hi There,
I got a bee in my bonnet about something the other day and felt like I needed to post on it. I tried to get my point across clearly without being too insulting to others – well, let’s be honest it’s going to offend some… if you’re one of the people I was writing about.
Basically what has happened is that I have written my first controversial piece and would love your feedback on it 🙂 http://ditchthebun.wordpress.com/2014/06/13/standing-on-my-soapbox/
