Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for feedback, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else.

If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment.

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling. If you simply leave a link to your blog, it’s likely to be overlooked.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Somewhere down this 3 year journey of graduate school, there will come a day in which I have to write a thesis paper. I’m starting this writing project as a means to explore the intersection(s) between the two things I love the most, Visual Communication Design and Olympic Weightlifting. We might even throw psychology into the mix.

With that being said, I present to you The Pen & Barbell. Clever, ha?

I’ll touch on various topics that I encounter everyday within these areas and possibly even be as broad as talking about life. Honestly, I have no idea where this will take me or what I will find at the end, but I’m hoping you’ll come along for the ride.

Here’s the rough draft. I’ll work on aesthetics once I get back home:

  2. I would like to know if my blog works at all. If anyone wants to trade a feedback session, I would really enjoy that. 🙂 Is my content interesting at all? Am still having tech probs. Will go to the community college and find some to tutor me. :0 ((hugs))

  3. I just started my blog yesterday, I’m writing reviews for games and anime. I’d really appreciate some feedback and advice! I don’t know if I’m doing anything right and I don’t know how to customize my blog to make it look how I want. Thanks!

    1. I like where your blog is going, keep it up!

As for customizing, it really depends on what you want to change around. For example, you have to buy the premium version of wordpress to change the colors. But you can add widgets, background images and other things for free. I also think it depends on the theme that you’re using.

      Hope that helps!

      1. Thank you so much for replying! And as a student in high school now, it’s almost impossible to buy the premium version but I’ll take your advice and work with customization or the theme for now. Thanks again! 😀

      1. Well, as a new blog, I can’t give much advice but I suppose good content and regular posts are a good way to start off! And socialize with blogs like your own! It’s good exposure and such, I’ve read. The layout of your blog is also important in nabbing a good impression on readers but I’m not that good on that part myself… ^_^”’

    1. I enjoyed reading your blog – The content is very well written. I got a shock when I looked at the About You section and read you are only 17! I wish I could have written that well when I was your age. I like how the text wraps around the images in your content (still haven’t figured out how to do that on my own blog!). All in all, good work.

  4. Hi there, I am writing a blog in the form of a book. It is written almost like a journal but in third person. I would like to know if the content is well written and interesting or if it sounds like a bunch of complaints. tenyearsingermany.wordpress.com
I’m also having trouble figuring out how to make a side bar featuring ‘blogs I follow’ and ‘champters to the book’.
Thank in advance for your help!

    1. Hi Rebekah – in the customise dashboard section of wordpress you should have the ability to add the blogroll as a widget. Regarding your content, I was interested to read your post about Lice. Fortunately I don’t have that problem having shaved my head, which isn’t an option you suggested in your post 😉

  5. Hey! I’d really appreciate some feedback on my blog theme and my content if anyone would like to take a look. It’s just about being a teen approaching adulthood to give people an idea into the life of a teenager in her last year as a teen and the lessons life has taught me on the way. Thank you!

    1. Hi Ishia. I’m also a fellow new blogger and I wanted to give some honest feedback. I like the simple layout of your blog. I personally would like to see a section in the sidebar showing your most popular posts for example (even though you are only starting off, it would still be nice as you accumulate more posts). Also, some of the longer entries, while very interesting, could maybe do with some paragraphs. It just makes the content stand out a little more. All in all, good job!

  7. This is great. Thank you.. I’ve been looking to see how I could garner some feedback.. I’ll be checking out lots of blogs that have commented on here and will offer whatever feedback is requested and to be helpful and supportive as I know what it’s like to be new and unsure and to feel desperately alone and doubtful ‘out here’ want some 🙂 my blog is also very new http://amandajgrace.wordpress.com/2014/06/03/intention/

I’d appreciate any glances. I only have 2 posts (so it won’t take long..lol) I’m wondering of there’s anything so far that would resonate. I’m also hoping to get feedback on my about me page.. Have I ‘introduced’ myself and my intentions adequately. Have I laid a good ground to help you feel you could connect with me? And I spent quite a while on the overall appearance also.. To try to get ‘me’ across. Thank you if you do xxx this is a new world!! Best of luck to you all on your blogging journeys!! Amanda

    1. Apologies for typos. I’m commenting from iPhone which apparently knows better than I, what I’m trying to say. (Needless to say I won’t blog from the iPhone!)
