Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Gama…I really like your blog, and by the numbers of comments you have received, I would say your site visitors like it too.

Your content is excellent, and I Liked and left several Comments myself.

It’s the navigation that seems problematic. I really had to work at finding the end of posts, the beginning and end of comments, and the start of Likes.

It all runs together somehow. I wonder if you’d be better served choosing another theme for your blog. There are a myriad of themes available without cost.

Typically, you can test a new theme before publishing with it.

Ask yourself: What you like about your blog, and what you would like to change/update? Sometimes, we have to be our own best critic.

    1. I suppose the Community Pool is a great place to come for blog kudos, feedback, and friendly advice.

But I would suggest using your Reader to find other blogs similar to yours. Read. Like. Comment. Engage.

I have found this WordPress community to be very friendly and forthcoming. Please don’t wait to get introduced. Seek and you shall find ways to connect.

I went to your blog, left Likes and Comments. It appears that you’ve only just begun posting. Bravo!

Continue to learn and grow alongside your peers here at the pool. Branch out to include bloggers elsewhere too, and you’ll be happy you did.

Study the articles on The Daily Post here. Very informative and lots of great tips for engaging, growing, and thriving.

  1. Hello Everyone! I need advice on my layout and writing. Is my layout professional? I trouble with my header image a lot. Is my writing honest and creative? I want to be welcoming and positive to my readers. Thank you so much for this opportunity and if anyone would like to scroll through my blog, please do and leave a comment 🙂 xo

    1. Hey Yasmeen, With your header image, I think all I would be tempted to do is add a white background behind your name so it doesn’t get lost in the daisies! Other than that I think the layout is very professional.

I also enjoyed your writing so have given you a follow. I like the fact that it is a personal blog alongside the book posts.

    2. I think your layout is lovely, though I’m not really an expert in such matters. My area of expertise is writing, and I thoroughly enjoyed your writing. I did see a couple small grammatical errors, however, more important (in my opinion) than precise grammar in a blog is a warm and engaging voice. Yours was enthusiastic, friendly, and welcoming. I very much look forward to future content. 🙂

    1. Hi!
Great ideas on your blog! I especially love the Pet Experience Care featured post, it’s really helpful. I love the pictures too!

Adding an About page would be easier for new readers to scroll through your blog. I would also suggest you to create more categories so that it’s even more easier for people to navigate through.

Otherwise, your content is good. Keep it up!

      All the best,
      Giulia

    2. I am on my holidays right now and I literally have nothing to do all day. You are my savior. Haha. And you named some of my favorite youtubers which means we have similar interests. 😀

  3. Have you ever looked at one of your photographs and had a song come to mind? Something that fits the mood, or atmosphere of the photo? My blog Soundtrack Of A Photograph is about that-finding a connection between my own photos and the many kinds of music that I love. My newest one is about the twangy guitar sounds of Duane Eddy-

  4. For all fellow Poets, Story Writers and Writers of all sorts really:

I’ve been running a poetry blog for a couple of years now, occasionally I like to throw in a few short stories and writing challenges for my readers as well.
One of the most important things to me, is to have one feature image with every post, emphasising the content of my post.
I am currently using the INTERGALACTIC Theme, which I like, because it provides a great overview of all my posts, combining the featured image and the first few lines of my post as a short introduction, piquing the interested of my readers.
However I’ve been using this scheme for a long time now and the more I write, the more difficult it becomes to find older posts with this Theme. I want to change to a Theme, that emphasises the featured image and provides a short introduction to my posts (without having to click on it) AND offers a much broader overview of more posts on the “Home” page.

    My Question:

Does anyone have any idea what I mean and can recommend a few Themes?

Free OR Non-free ones, it doesn’t really matter. I simply want my blog to look more professional and like a portfolio.

My apologies, if I failed to convey what I mean to say. I hope it’s not too confusing.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Prospermind. 🙂

    1. Great start and I love that initial post. I know you are just starting off but you may want to get what you have in your About and Contact sections out to the main body of your posts. Maybe a blurb at the bottom of each post saying ‘always looking for contributors, check the contact section for details’…that type of thing so people will know that it will be potentially a shared content site.

  7. Hi everyone,
I’ve just published a new blog post titled “writing update: music…”, which is all about the music that inspires me to write. If you’re an aspiring author, or just want to discover some new music, then this post is for you (or anyone who wants to discover a new blog :p). I would really appreciate your feedback and whether or not you enjoy reading these kinds of posts.
