Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for input, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else. If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment . . .

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello everybody! I am still tweaking the look/layout of my blog, and would appreciate any feedback on the layout and look of the site, as well as any tips on how to generate more traffic. I just resumed writing recently, and would appreciate feedback on the pieces as well. Here’s my most new post:

    Real Girls Need Love Too

(well, that isn’t really true – it is a reworked version of a post from 2 years ago – but it’s new to this blog, and it’s been edited…so I suppose I should say that it’s my “newish” piece….Feel free to comment here or on the blog itsel. Thank you!

    1. Link dropping for visits is not an appropriate form of communication in any blogging community. It’s considered to be spamming because you expect a blog visit despite the fact you offered nothing to the communication here.

      1. If its not the done thing, why have have empersised the point thus directing people to the site and the person you are critising. So she dropped her name in, she explained why and she apologised for doing something no one except you gives a damn about. I really think that there are more important things to be concerned about then whether someone has mistakenly left their link. The blog is quite good and will be following instead of pouring out criticism. New bloggers need to be supported and not made to feel they have done something against the community. Its like knocking on your new neighbours door and telling them that the have parked their car pointing the wroung direction.

Get over yourself. Your blogs are not even hosted by WordPress.com so we can clearly see THAT you posted here to milk newbies for hits – IMNHO that behavior sucks!

    1. Social networking and creating a blog centered community are strictly give, give, give to get. If you want comments then start commenting on related blogs frequently. My advice is to never ever post to public spaces and places begging for comments and subscribers because it’s not effective and can compromise your online reputation.

You have an empty blog with these static pages in your cusom menu that will never update. They need to be replaced with categories.
      Clubs
      Events
      Restaurants

To create a custom menu see here > https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/different-links-within-pages-on-the-menu-bar-that-will-direct-someone-interested?replies=2#post-1475849

  2. So I’m incredibly new to blogging and have found the promotion process a bit overwhelming. My posts are generally geared towards discussions around incredibly ambiguous topics such as the origin of life, why we’re here, whether or not reality exists, and other thought provoking content. The problem with this kind of blog I think is connecting with people. I tend to ramble and my written thoughts move in directions that at times I can’t refollow. Regardless, I think the subject matter is interesting, even to general reader and as a result, I’ve attempted to ease up on my language a structure of writing. A general review of the reader friendliness is the ultimate goal of my posting here.

  3. Hej, my blog is a new baby born last week. But I posted 5 posts about branding, mainly focusing on Scandinavian brands and design. Because I just finished my study on consumer culture in Sweden. It was fun and valuable experience in Sweden, I would love to share my collection of simple beauty of branding with others~ I am a bit nerdy meanwhile present a playfully penned blog~ come and let me know if you like it: tincozhai.wordpress.com

  5. Hi all,

I have recently changed the focus of my blog, however, I find it is still somewhat inconsistent. At first the purpose of the blog was to document my travels, however, it was more ‘diary-like’ and copy heavy. I also returned home so I was rather uninspired. I then changed the focus to photography and I have now added some of my poetry. I would like to add more stories from my previous travels; perhaps short stories – although I feel this would make it ‘all over the place’.

I also find I would like to add more on music, books, my journey of learning art, and I want a more personal perspective, although I usually hold back on this for fear of criticism. Please would you be so kind as to visit my blog and provide me with some feedback; it would be greatly appreciated!

    Many thanks

  7. Hi all! I’d like to know what the preference is out there, on short (under 500 words) vs long (over 1,000 words) post. My hunch is that generally readers prefer short posts, since time is such a luxury these days, but I’d like a confirmation just the same.

A sample of my long post:

An Apple Rose Tart & A Love Story

A sample of my short(er) post:

    Peacemaker

Let me know what you think. I hope to hear from some of you, thanks!

  8. I’d love feedback on my new travel blog. I just started it and it is just a tool to motivate people to travel. We just returned from longterm travel experience and I want to encourage others to live their travel dreams.

This is one of my posts but it gets lost and although I have lots of followers from our travel days it doesn’t get a whole lot of new exposure. Suggestions..comments, ideas for tags? I’m not making money off this or advertising.
