Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for input, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else. If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment . . .

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. The big thing I notice is your post titles. (BTW: Your August 4 post has no title.) If you’re looking for more readers, I’d suggest having post titles that give the reader a greater idea of the topic. For instance, “Because I’m Worth It” could be about almost anything. (Oh, and it is possible to delete the double post. Just be careful not to delete the wrong one.)

I also think your tagline could be less verbose. “My thoughts, whims, and perplexities” says the same thing more effectively without losing any artistic content. However, it might help for you to mention what the thoughts are about; there’s very little in your header to distinguish your blog from thousands of others.

The blog concept is a good idea. I wish you’d bring something from the weight loss journey to your title or tagline because you write about it so much. That would give you some individuality among blogs and it would help grab readers.

  2. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get some traffic over to my blog. Today, has been my best “like” blog post day. 9 people liked my blog post and I’m very happy, but no one is commenting negatively or positively, so I don’t know if I’m on the right track or not. How did y’all get so many followers? I am sure the way I am tagging is a lot of the problem, so if you have any advice I’d eat it up. Thanks!!

  4. Hi everyone. I started a blog recently for people in my family to share childhood stories. They have responded nicely and what I like about it is characters are forming through the stories. I would like to know if the way I have laid this out is okay or if there is some suggestions for building a better site. Thanks for taking a look!

    1. What a charming family! The well written reminiscences and the comments make your blog interesting reading.

I’d suggest an authors’ widget so we readers could see who is writing. If it wouldn’t be to personal, I’d also suggest adding first names for the siblings on the about page (also the photo http://ogmundsonstories.wordpress.com/2013/07/26/newwest-jpg/). Or even adding that photo to the about page?

Usually blogs with so much candor are private, for family only, but I found myself wishing you had a “subscribe” widget.

    1. Hi 🙂 The length of what you have written is not too long, however, it would be better if you added some pictures that go with it. It makes it seem shorter and the reader will straight away know more about what they are reading

      1. Thanks for the input. I was a little reluctant to add pictures because of all the nasty copyright issues and I don’t know which ones will be alright and which won’t. Is it OK for me to add images from Google and give Google images their due credit? Thanks again for helping out

      2. You can find websites where they let you use their photos for free like this one: http://www.sxc.hu/ or you could just take them yourself, it’s what I do most of the time. I’m not sure about taking pictures from google though, there might be some issues depending where it originally came from.

  7. sorry, just see this is an English blog – I would like to send you my picture of the Swan an Lake Zurich. It is a very special animal and many scientists try to find out why it associates with poeple. It mingles with the guests of the resort – obvisously very unimpresssed and relaxed. 8. Our family is going through a tough time. My wife asked me to post a blog about the situation. The goal is to provide information to other families who might be going through the same, and to provide an outlet for all of us to let folks know what we are thinking and feeling.

    1. ~ Hey 🙂 I guess you could add more widgets esp. a fan page so that your readers can also be updated with all your posts even in other media (FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Can you also put a like button or I just haven’t seen it yet? More Power! 🙂

  11. Hi everyone! I started my first blog in April. It is an online poetry notebook – a place to test out ideas and get them out in the open. It took me a lot to be brave enough to do this, and I would really love it if you would take the time, just choose a poem from the right hand navigation and give me some feedback on it. I want to grow as a poet and I am hoping that you are willing to help!! Thank you 🙂
