How to sign up: PostADay / PostAWeek

Here are two challenges we’re organizing: Post A Day and Post A Week.  You can pick which, and then you’ll be committed to posting once a day, or once a week, for all of 2011.  We’ll support and encourage you from this blog every step of the way.

You can join up any time – don’t worry if a few days or weeks have gone by, start now.

Signing up is simple – do the following:

  1. Post on your blog that you’re participating (you can grab a sample post here).
  2. Start using the tag postaday2011 or postaweek2011 with your posts (tips on tagging here).
  3. Subscribe to The Daily Post via email thru the sidebar, or via RSS, and you’ll start getting reminders and inspiration every day.
  4. If you’d like a badge for your blog’s sidebar, get one here!

Once we see your first post, it will help us get a sense for how many people are involved in each program.

And if you need a new blog, it’s easy – go here to grab one.

Got it? Awesome. Glad you’re on board.

  1. What a great idea! I wasn’t supposed to start my blog until January 1, 2011, but have actually been blogging since Dec. 14, 2010. I just can’t seem to stop myself. I had no idea blogging was so much fun.

I’ll sign up for post-a-day, since I’m pretty well doing that already. I love the idea of tailoring the daily inspiration to fit the theme of my blog, which is fantasy fition. So I’m rewording the one for yesterday to: What three fantasy worlds would you like to visit, and why?

  2. Wow, that’s a really good idea. I’m going to start tomorrow and post every Sunday in 2011. I wish luck for all the blogs that are doing this.

  3. Aaaah, wonderful. This was exactly the kick I needed to start writing. I set up a new blog last week, and have been staring at the thing, racking my brain for a good first post topic, and a way to get myself to update it frequently. I’m kinda excited about this – thanks guys!

  4. I just managed my first post of the ‘Post Every Day’ challenge with 15 minutes left of the 1st January to spare. Great idea, hope that I make it past the first month.

I don’t know if this has been said before, but it might be useful if you make people aware of the ‘schedule a post’ feature. This has been really useful for me for example, when going away on holiday, but still wanting to post on my blog. I guess this feature will be vital for me in this challenge.

Also, can I ask how you, or indeed we, will keep track of everybody who is doing this challenge? Does using the tag ‘postaday2011’ make this possible?

  5. “Real Artists Ship”. Steve Jobs is right about that one! In 2010 I went back to programming after having been distracted by other things, and I have recently started a blog to help me be more concrete about finishing things (scripts, applications, tutorials), and making my efforts public. But I have discovered that finishing blog posts is just as challenging:) Yes, I also wrote a post about this. Nice coincidence, this challenge. Thanks, and good work all.

Remember that sometimes perfectionism is just an easy way to procrastinate. What is done can be improved, what is only in ones head, stays there, and improves not. Good work, everyone!

      1. Grazie! 🙂
I was reading your blog and took your advice to improve my profile.

It’s curious to see how often an irritation with something leads to new solutions. I keep trying to see a possibility to be creative, by coding or otherwise, in all things that annoy me, but it’s not always easy. It’s easier if it’s just to do with computers and the internet, harder when it has to do with people. And we only can change ourselves.

Anyway, problems can be inspiring, certainly they can inspire blog posts. We should keep that in mind.

Felice anno nuovo a tutti! Buona scrittura, anche. Vi auguro che le idee trovino voi, o voi loro, e che i post che scriverete e i lettori giusti si trovino a vicenda.

        Serendipity for all:)

  6. Interesting, I am committed to the Post a Week challenge. I think this would be good for me as I am a bit shy and do suffer from writer’s block at times. All I would ask is for people to read my posts and give me constructive feedback.

    1. Congratulations and Good luck with the challenge and the family.

You can always schedule some to be posted during the time you think you might be a little too busy taking care of other more important matters.
Kind of like, “if you’re reading this post it means I’m….”

      Happy New Year!

  7. I’m in for postaday2011 and I’ve rolled out two blog posts already.

Mine will be Chemistry themed as it is the International Year of Chemistry this year.

    1. Interesting blog.
The fact you mentioned the blog’s theme in your comment made me more curious. Probably all commenters should try to briefly summerize what their blogs are about, so we can know we want to click and visit them.

  8. Having let my blog languish over the past year, I am taking up this challenge albeit in the postaweek category. Good luck to all the fellow travelers.

  9. I’m in! I’ll start with post a week, see how it goes and maybe turn to post a day.

  10. What a great idea – just started a new blog, having helped many others do theirs, so have signed up for the once a week option. Doing one a day feels a bit challenging at the moment and I can always change my mind later. Better to ease my way in then to fail miserably and beat myself up.

I also think that quality posts are more important then quantity if you are going to keep your audience happy!

Wishing all those who participate a wicked ride 🙂

    Best wishes

    Andy
