Instant Findability
Search engines are the trade winds of the internet. Like the explorers of the sailing age, intrepid web searchers set out to enrich themselves, their ultimate destination the ultimate mystery. Never mind that they end up on a blog instead of atop a hill of glittering treasure or in the belly of a whale. Let’s stick to the romantic metaphor.
A year ago we launched the WordPress.com search engine. Monthly searches number in the millions. Today we announce a significant update: instant findability. The instant you publish, searchers will see it at the top of the “most recent results” when they search for any terms in your post. We hope this helps people find you even if you aren’t the fountain of youth.

This sounds truly awesome. When I look at my stats and see the search words people used to find an article I posted, it’s amazing to see the phrases they used that got matched up. I’m hoping what they found really was what they were looking for. It always seems “right on”. Thank you for your great team work and for tending to so many requests. No wonder everyone appreciates your accomplishments.

I already thought you were doing a good job with this, especially when compared to Blogspot. I have the same blog with Blogspot that I have here at WordPress. When I would do a Google search for a category in a post I recently put up, after a few hours, the WordPress post would appear on the first or second page, but not my Blogspot post, this is even though Blogspot is owned/run by Google. Go Figure.

Nice but shouldn’t it read tags as well as content? My blog is all about standup paddlesurfing but unless I write the words standup paddlesurfing in the latest post it doesn’t show up when I search that term. I always include that in the tags along with other relevant descriptors. I just did a test and my latest post didn’t show up until I edited it and added the search terms to the end of the post. I guess I could do that to all my posts and maybe it would help with other search engines as well.

I had no idea this feature existed… If I wanted to find a specific topic, I’d usually just go to the tags page and change the URL. So yeah, I agree with the second comment by augdra, maybe you could make it a bit more visible on the dashboard?
It sounds like a great feature anyway, I’ll surely start using it from here on. 🙂

Why don’t you extend the “instant concept of search to the auto generated related posts feature ? I mean why should the related posts feature 2007 news item posts in 2009 ?
